My smile? In the wig pic? That was the first wig I tried on...I think I was just apprehensive. Haven't taken one since I've bought it.

Day after chemo - no nausea (thank goodness), but super tired like you Amw5. I got the Emend in the IV and they gave me a prescription for steroids to take for 3 days, but I'm wondering if I need them. They already made my face red.

Leslie2016 - I wish I had done my port a few days earlier. I had it Friday and chemo on Tuesday, and it could have used another couple days to heal, so you'll be thankful, and it must have felt good to make that hospital worker's day!

Nanpop - Eat a good breakfast - I had the exact same thing nfullbume had - scrambled eggs and sourdough toast. Now I'm eating mint chip ice cream for my comfort food. The chemo has left a weird taste in my mouth, like I want to brush my teeth all the time, so the mint chip is perfect!

I hope I have more energy tomorrow.

Nfullblume - I ordered a wig headband thru headcovers.com, and it helps keeps the wig on well. Here's my wig - I can't say I like it yet. I've always had longer hair, so hard to get used to, but it will do I guess.

Leslie - Yes, I was referring to the one of you in the wig. I like scarfs too, and I will be wearing plenty of them.

I had my first treatment today AC. My daughter took me and we had a good day. The treatment room was very lovely with a great view outside. I found it not unpleasant at all. My nurse was very nice and explained everything to me. My uncle who has been having treatments for non-Hodgkins came in to see me and wanted to make sure everyone was taking good care of me. He knew everyone there. It was very comforting.

I felt fine during infusion. Then my daughter took me to lunch, and a quick stop for shopping. I did get tired later at home and felt weird, my body felt tingly and my tummy felt warm, kinda of like I drank whiskey. I will start nausea meds before bed and clairtin. I have the nuelsta box. She put it on my tummy.

I am glad to hear how everyone is doing. It helps. I think everyone looks great in their wigs and scafves.

Nfullblume oh, I didn't realize the sticker that you guys got can't get wet. My Neulasta is an actual needle, that I have to give myself in the stomach. I think I like the sticker.....

Going for my port this morning. And I mentioned it in the Lumpectomy lounge but not here, but I have a "new lump" coming up just at the edge of the incision from my first lumpectomy which is hard and 2 days ago was painful to touch. I believe it's right where they said the DCIS is that we didn't know about before I had the IDC taken out. My nipple is also being pulled in. MO didn't seem too happy and has ordered an ultrasound but I don't know when yet. I've been good with everything so far, but now I'm freaked out. Wishing I had done a mastectomy in the first place....just one more thing to worry about.

oh no Leslie! I hope it is nothing, I felt another bump after my biopsy and they checked it by ultrasound and it was just a hematoma...praying yours is something similar!!

Sorella- so sorry your insurance doesn't cover a wig, that is very annoying, they should cover ALL aspects of treatment!! There are places you can get free wigs, try and look into that.

And look it to the Look Good Feel Good program, they do FREE classes for cancer patients, give you makeup and teach you how to apply it. I am going to look into the one near me.

Marigoldgirl I'm glad your first treatment went pretty good, I start tomorrow and I'm still nervous!

What did you guys bring with you for your chemo appts? How much water should I drink before so I am well hydrated? I will be using my veins (no port) should I start chugging lots today?

Sorella, look up your local American Cancer Society. They have a class you should attend: Look good, Feel better. It's free and you'll get 400 bucks of free makeup, good stuff- Clinique, estee lauder, Lancôme. . They'll teach you tricks for makeup with no hair. I'm also using the Brian Joseph's gel. Fingers s tossed. The ACS will also give you 2 free wigs. My center had hundreds to choose from. The black one with funky bangs I posted was a freebie.

You can also Pinterest or YouTube "chemo makeup tricks." There are a ton of good ones out there. Many are taught by girls with alopecia, so they use these tips every day of their lives.

Becky, I use 1 cup warm water. 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt (you could use iodized), 1 tseaspoon of baking soda. Stir until clear and all dissolved. Swish mouthfuls till it's gone.

Anyone else doing chemo first, then surgery? My MO wants to watch the tumor and make sure it is shrinking, so I am having surgery after...not sure yet whether it will be a lumpectomy or a mastectomy, depends on how my genetic panel comes back (I am already brca1 & 2 neg) but I have such a strong family history they are checking for any different genes.

one more question...who else is just using their veins? no port?

I had my first TX yesterday. Kept really hydrated but the nausea got the best of me about 4 hours afterwards. My MO said I shouldn't vomit so I'm not sure why I did. I was eating a lot of saltines and took my meds. Zofran was given before the chemo and I took compazine when I got home and another zofran a couple hours later. Going in for the Neulasta shot today, I'll ask what could have caused it.

Speaking of the shot, what is the deal with Claritin? I heard to take it before the shot to avoid some SEs?

Nfullblume, are you taking Zofran the first few days? On the bottle on the front of mine it says it may cause headaches.
