Starting Chemo in Nov 2016

My smile? In the wig pic? That was the first wig I tried on...I think I was just apprehensive. Haven't taken one since I've bought it.
-
Leslie, yay!!! I don't know what your hair looked like before, but that wig totally suits you!! Are you wearing a sock or sleeve under it. I'm interested to know if they'll slip once we are MR Clean bald..I like the scarf too. Super cute!
I'm going to shave tomorrow since I can't shower until tomorrow at 6.40, after the Neulasta shot is done.
-
Day after chemo - no nausea (thank goodness), but super tired like you Amw5. I got the Emend in the IV and they gave me a prescription for steroids to take for 3 days, but I'm wondering if I need them. They already made my face red.
Leslie2016 - I wish I had done my port a few days earlier. I had it Friday and chemo on Tuesday, and it could have used another couple days to heal, so you'll be thankful, and it must have felt good to make that hospital worker's day!
Nanpop - Eat a good breakfast - I had the exact same thing nfullbume had - scrambled eggs and sourdough toast. Now I'm eating mint chip ice cream for my comfort food. The chemo has left a weird taste in my mouth, like I want to brush my teeth all the time, so the mint chip is perfect!
I hope I have more energy tomorrow.
Sleep well ladies.
-
Well that was when I was trying on wigs, so I still had my hair underneath. When I've worn it since then, no I don't have a sleeve or anything on, just the wig on my head. No slippage, no problem.
Glad to see you got through your session today, but why can't you shower until 6:40?
-
Leslie2016 - Love the wig! Looks like it's your real hair.
Nfullblume - I ordered a wig headband thru headcovers.com, and it helps keeps the wig on well. Here's my wig - I can't say I like it yet. I've always had longer hair, so hard to get used to, but it will do I guess.
-
Sleepless, yours looks great too. You have amazing skin! Have you tried baking soda and salt washes in your mouth? I did them 3x per day for the first 5 days after the injection. No weird taste or soreness for me. It keeps the acidity from breaking down the mucous membranes.
Leslie, The Neulasta shot is a sticker on my arm. It can't get wet. My shot goes off at 5.30pm tomorrow. It takes about an hour.
Heating pad on my neck tonight. It's got me thinking. I'm wondering if my headaches in the first round were really from the Neulasta. I think it may just be the chemo chemicals. My headache isn't bad, but it does feel like the previous ones on day 3-4 last cycle. Might mean it can't be the neulasta, since I haven't gotten it this cycle yet. Interesting.
Have a good night. Good luck to those starting tomorrow.

Hopfull2, I love the name Meliana

I had my first treatment today AC. My daughter took me and we had a good day. The treatment room was very lovely with a great view outside. I found it not unpleasant at all. My nurse was very nice and explained everything to me. My uncle who has been having treatments for non-Hodgkins came in to see me and wanted to make sure everyone was taking good care of me. He knew everyone there. It was very comforting.
I felt fine during infusion. Then my daughter took me to lunch, and a quick stop for shopping. I did get tired later at home and felt weird, my body felt tingly and my tummy felt warm, kinda of like I drank whiskey. I will start nausea meds before bed and clairtin. I have the nuelsta box. She put it on my tummy.
I am glad to hear how everyone is doing. It helps. I think everyone looks great in their wigs and scafves.
-
thanks. I wanted to keep the M's going. I have a question for you ladies. I noticed most of you are doing neulesta shots. I'm not doing that shot instead I'm doing neupogen shot for 7days on my 3rd week. Are any of you doing the neupogen shot?

BG46TN
BG46TN, and all, I am on day 10 post first treatment of ACT and my chemo nurse said I should expect to lose my hair, day 17 which is 3 days after my second treatment. I have a few cotton caps and some nice knit hats to start out with. My MO gave me a prescription for a wig but my darned insurance doesn't cover it. I have accepted this for myself but am very angry for others going through this. I know they won't care but I am sending them a complaint regarding this. I am most anxious about my eyebrows and eye lashes. I know they won't necessarily go but amworried. The shop at my cancer center sells gel to help keep eyebrows at 50 bucks a shot and I could need more than 1 and then I read that some used it and it only worked until Taxol. I am not sure what to do. I know there are makeup tricks, stencils etc so will have to see. What are you gals thinking about this? -
I forgot to ask is any one else bruised on their port. Mine is bruised from infusion today. I do bruise very easy maybe that is why? My blood work and counts were all good. I also started peeing out the red before I even left the center today. The nurse said it was good, that I was hydrated well before I started.
-
Nfullblume oh, I didn't realize the sticker that you guys got can't get wet. My Neulasta is an actual needle, that I have to give myself in the stomach. I think I like the sticker.....
Going for my port this morning. And I mentioned it in the Lumpectomy lounge but not here, but I have a "new lump" coming up just at the edge of the incision from my first lumpectomy which is hard and 2 days ago was painful to touch. I believe it's right where they said the DCIS is that we didn't know about before I had the IDC taken out. My nipple is also being pulled in. MO didn't seem too happy and has ordered an ultrasound but I don't know when yet. I've been good with everything so far, but now I'm freaked out. Wishing I had done a mastectomy in the first place....just one more thing to worry about.
-
Leslie, the fact that it's hard could be good. Everything hard on all of my ultrasounds is scar tissue or a fibroadenoma, a benign fibroid tumor. Try to hope for the best. Even if it's bad, they may leave it in and see if the chemo shrinks it.
Good luck on the port install, let us know how you're doing.
(((Gentle hugs)))
-
oh no Leslie! I hope it is nothing, I felt another bump after my biopsy and they checked it by ultrasound and it was just a hematoma...praying yours is something similar!!
Sorella- so sorry your insurance doesn't cover a wig, that is very annoying, they should cover ALL aspects of treatment!! There are places you can get free wigs, try and look into that.
And look it to the Look Good Feel Good program, they do FREE classes for cancer patients, give you makeup and teach you how to apply it. I am going to look into the one near me.
Marigoldgirl I'm glad your first treatment went pretty good, I start tomorrow and I'm still nervous!
What did you guys bring with you for your chemo appts? How much water should I drink before so I am well hydrated? I will be using my veins (no port) should I start chugging lots today?
Becky
-
nfullboom how much baking soda, salt and water do you mix together for your mouth rinse?
and I didn't know that about the patch either, good to know since I will be getting that too.
-
Sorella, look up your local American Cancer Society. They have a class you should attend: Look good, Feel better. It's free and you'll get 400 bucks of free makeup, good stuff- Clinique, estee lauder, Lancôme. . They'll teach you tricks for makeup with no hair. I'm also using the Brian Joseph's gel. Fingers s tossed. The ACS will also give you 2 free wigs. My center had hundreds to choose from. The black one with funky bangs I posted was a freebie.
You can also Pinterest or YouTube "chemo makeup tricks." There are a ton of good ones out there. Many are taught by girls with alopecia, so they use these tips every day of their lives.
You've got this! How was your first 10 days
-
We will see. I just don't understand where it came from because it wasn't there before Sunday. It's RIGHT under the skin so it isn't like it was hiding under everything else. I also figure if it were scar tissue it would have surfaced sooner since my L was over a month ago. I mean, I'm 99% healed from it!
I found the first lump, went to dr, mammogram, ultrasound, biopsy, went and got results, did not freak. Saw surgeon, had surgery, did not freak. Got sideswiped when I was told I needed chemo as i didn't expect it, found out all my receptors and what they mean, I've had MRI's, CT scan, went for gene testing, did not freak. Now, I'm freaked. Sigh.
-
Becky, I use 1 cup warm water. 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt (you could use iodized), 1 tseaspoon of baking soda. Stir until clear and all dissolved. Swish mouthfuls till it's gone.
Let me know if you questions on the Neulasta patch.
-
Hello all, I will join you also. Just started 4 rounds of TC on November 15th. I was concerned about the possibility of an allergic reaction to the taxotere, but all went well. Nausea meds seem to be working, and I am greatful for that! Back to doc for Nuelasta injection today. Best wishes to all of you.
-
Annie16, I have, a now fading huge yellow bruise from the port. I was told this was normal. I also bruise easily. When I got my biopsy, I was soooo bruised. My daughter pointed out that one of the bruises looked like our favorite family place, the map of Crete. I peed red in the place too. Glad to hear that's a good sign.
-
in addition to this, which seems to be working for me also, my dentist gave me a prescription tooth paste called Prevident and Biotene mouth rinse, both designed to help with dry mouth. Toothpaste tastes fine, too
-
Anyone else doing chemo first, then surgery? My MO wants to watch the tumor and make sure it is shrinking, so I am having surgery after...not sure yet whether it will be a lumpectomy or a mastectomy, depends on how my genetic panel comes back (I am already brca1 & 2 neg) but I have such a strong family history they are checking for any different genes.

Favorite food: I'm more of a sweets eater. Love good quality chocolate and cakey stuff.
Anything else you want to share: I've always been an incredibly healthy and spiritual person but this disease has taught me so many life lessons. I have a knew outlook on life of what really matters and what it means to really put the care of myself before others which is always hard to do as a mother, wife and friend. My new favorite words are Hope, Brave and Inspire. You ladies are living proof that women are strong and we have an inner fighter in all of us!
-
one more question...who else is just using their veins? no port?
-
BG46TN: I'm with you in that doing chemo then surgery. Us Tn's are special. Also, I don't have a port but really I don't know if I will last for 2 more AC plus 12 taxol. TBD....
-
I had my first TX yesterday. Kept really hydrated but the nausea got the best of me about 4 hours afterwards. My MO said I shouldn't vomit so I'm not sure why I did. I was eating a lot of saltines and took my meds. Zofran was given before the chemo and I took compazine when I got home and another zofran a couple hours later. Going in for the Neulasta shot today, I'll ask what could have caused it.
Speaking of the shot, what is the deal with Claritin? I heard to take it before the shot to avoid some SEs?
Nfullblume, are you taking Zofran the first few days? On the bottle on the front of mine it says it may cause headaches.
-
Sleepless, your wig looks great. It's a good style for your face shape. And I agree that you have wonderful skin!
