Blood test - Tamoxifen

Hi, I have been taking Tamoxifen for a little over a month and haven't noticed any side effects at all. Whilst this pleases me in one way, I worry that experiencing no side effects might mean I am not metabolising the drug properly.

I asked my Oncologist about a blood test to check this but he said there is not enough evidence to show that there is any benefit to testing.

I would be happy to pay for testing myself but it doesn't seem as if the test is available in Canada.

Does anyone have any experience of this or know how I can go about getting a test?

    Studies do not show that side effects have a correlation with Tamoxifen's effectiveness. I'm sure somebody will respond to explain about metabolic testing. My MO won't do this because her hospital system doesn't think it's useful, but other people have other experiences.

    Thanks for your post ksusan. It's good to know that maybe the Tamoxifen is doing its job and I am just lucky not to have any side effects (long may it continue!)

    Does anyone have any information about getting your blood tested in Canada for Tamoxifen metabolism? I would be grateful for any information. Thank you.
