    I. HATE. SUMMER. Hate it. I'm an Autumn/Winter girl and have never, ever like the heat. Where I live in southern Ontario on the shores of Lake Ontario, our summers can be VERY humid. Today, it was already 32C when I left for work this morning and, by noon, it's going to be close to 37C with a humidex of 44C. Ugh. Hate it.

It's always a struggle to be well-groomed in such heat. I don't like going without hosiery at work (feels unprofessional for a cemetery office), but there's no way in HELL I'm putting any on in the this heat. Our dress code is such that sundresses or exposed shoulders are out and, even if we were allowed to wear them, the A/C in the office is kept so cold, you'd need a sweater anyway. It's ridiculous.

Make-up is minimal; a touch of mascara and lip-stain. Don't get me started on trying to tame my hair. I've grown it out a bit and have it cut in an asymmetrical bob, but you'd never know it in this humidity; my hair is a halo of frizzy curls. Ugh. It's hard to look elegant and classy when one sweats like a pig.

I feel your pain. The worst was the 12 summers I spent living in NYC without AC. It's going to be hot here, but that means mid 80s. And I have the option of going swimming after work. I don't think so as preparing for my ride to Vancouver BC which starts at dawn tomorrow.

Summer cardigans are the solution to the AC problem.

Right now, it's cool and delightful. Hope things remain that way. - Claire

p.s. The bane of my existence right now is finding comfortable low shoes or flats. I think I may need to visit the shop in Seattle that specializes in sensible and stylish European shoes. No wonder everyone here is wearing flip flops winter and summer!

Claire, do you mean Arche? Some of their shoes are fabulous.

I found my 'ruby slippers' - fabulous Ferragamo flats on eBay, and my feet are rejoicing. I think there are similar ones out there, so will be back in business soon.

Learned over the weekend that a bit of vanity is a very good thing indeed. Won't share the experience other than say that a touch of vanity does wonders in more than one area of life.

I will still visit the shoe shop in Seattle, and also put in the clothing donate bin the attempts which do nothing for my feet and even less for my image.

Because fabulousness is so definitely the way to go. Especially when one's feet are happy. - Claire

Clare, my grandma swore by Ferragamo, never wore anything else. Sadly her collection went in the bin when she died, because all the rest of us have huge feet, whereas she was tiny.

I know! She loved shoes, my grandpa too. I come by it honestly :D My grandpa advised me once that there is nothing worse than a beautifully dressed woman with bad shoes, better, he told me, great shoes and a pair of old jeans

Thanks Momine. What I do know is that shoes can make the outfit. Not to mention that your face looks better when your feet are smiling!

Unlike your family, I didn't come by it honestly. I did honestly come by my nose for a good bargain. Front page of the family Bible from my mother's family had the original price of $6 scratched out with a final price of $4!!!

Must find more shoes as you can't go for fabulousness and ignore your footwear. - Claire

This thread is languishing so time for a "bump".

My latest updates on the vanity front are my two recent purchases of Jil Sander trousers. The first were back in August when I snagged a pair of stretch/stirrup trousers designed by Raf Simons for $9.99 on eBay. Far too toasty to appreciate then, but tried them on today and WOW!!!!

They look fabulous and highlight all the cycling I have been doing (which is killer legs). A couple of weeks ago, I found another pair, but these are classic tailored ones in a wool-silk blend. Again, they fit as if I were the model for them. Just fabulous and I will wear at the conference I am attending in a little over a month. An incentive to keep up my cycling.

These had the original price tag of $975. I got them for $41 including shipping and they are brand new!

The shoe crisis is over, thank goodness. I just bought a second pair of the Ferragamo flats I snagged a couple of months ago. My feet are happy again Smile I also just noticed that I can rock the fur collar I bought a few years ago at a thrift shop as back in style.

Yesterday, I signed up for the Ride in the Rain challenge, which requires 8 rides during November, the wettest month here to qualify. You get major bragging rights, plus stay fitter than otherwise. But fortunately not quite vain enough to cycle when it's icy out. There are limits to everything! - Claire

I fit Nygaard well but not Polo. Well done you. Where did you get it?

My mom has a Malene Birger outlet near her house, and because Danish women are big and I have lost weight, I can fit the sample sizes. So I have a couple of great jackets picked up for a song. I love those jackets. Like good shoes, a well-cut jacket can absolutely make an outfit.

I will always spend more for a jacket than any other piece. I'm in sales so I know it makes a good impression when the cut is right.

I love blazers! Especially equestrienne-tailored which is a good cut for me. Barbie... I'm always scanning for great deals of my favourite lines: Ralph Lauren and Brooks Brothers are my go-to's for work attire.
