Hi everyone, My mother is going for her 3rd cycle of Taxol on Wednesday. She is scheduled to take four. then radiation. She says she experiences a lot of pain it last for over 9 days, over a week on average. One doctor when we went for review said it is normal side effect. Another Doctor said he didn't like the fact that she was having pain and gave her medication. I wanted to know if anyone had an experience using it or reviews on it. There are two sets, one is called Dexamethasone 1MG Tablet. the other is called Ranitidine HCL 150MG Tablet.

    Hi AaronBronte:

Sorry you haven't received any replies. I am replying to keep your question in the active threads.

Ranitidine HCL (tradename ZANTAC) is widely used even in patients without cancer (e.g., for "heartburn" also referred to as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)). It is a histamine H2 receptor antagonist, and exerts its effect by blocking the production of acid by acid-producing cells in the stomach. From various posts, there are a variety of drugs (with various mechanisms of action) used in this setting. For example, "proton pump inhibitors" ("PPIs") are also used for this purpose.

Dexamethasone is a type of steroid medication.

These types of medications seem to be common supportive therapies used in the chemotherapy setting. To ensure full effect, your Mom should be sure to take them as prescribed, including the recommended dose, frequency, and any instructions re time of day, with or without food, etcetera, and report any concerns to her oncologist.

Hopefully, others will come along and share their experience.
