Next Monday i'm having a lumpectomy, When i had my biopsy they inserted a pin to make the place where it was, since it was so tiny. they said they would take it out during surgery. My question is...i have heard others having this wire inserted in their nips....would they have to do this to me, since i have this pin already?

Maybe - ask. I had a marker in place but had a wire localization as well.

    Hi Shenry,

The clip they put in at time of the biopsy is something they always do to mark the site that has been biopsied.  They do the same whenever they perform surgery on any internal organ.  This is standard surgical practice that has been going on since the 1950's or so.

The wire localization they do before the lumpectomy is to mark the site for the surgeon.  Think of it like turning on the lights on the road.  It helps the surgeon locate the site.

I hope this helps.  Best of luck on your lumpectomy.  Hope all goes well.
