Adorable little girl, Anne! The picture made me smile.

I brought my mother some Popeye's chicken and one of their yummy biscuits for her lunch. Then I wheeled her down to the tiny room that serves as a "salon." She's having a perm.

I'll sit in her room until time to go and get her.

Yay, Cubs! Maybe next year Cleveland can win. It was very close.

    Happy Thursday

Good morning to all. We have another hot day ahead, probably another record breaking temperature in the mid to high 80's. The forecast holds a promise of cool fronts coming our way. We can only hope. Thank goodness for a/c in homes and cars and all commercial places.

No golf today so I have a day for doing constructive things. One job needing to be done is to tackle the desk in our small office, which is piled with papers to be filed or shredded. And the bank account statements go back for months. I may deal with the desk and the statements. Then there's ironing...

Sending hugs to those who need hugs.

    Hello ladies!

I am SO excited about my Cubbies! I know I gained 10 pounds the past few weeks while watching this nerve-wracking series! I finished a bag of red licorice, numerous bowls of ice cream and popcorn, a bag of jelly beans and a bag of Cheetos! Nothing like eating good healthy food when under stress! :-)

It is a lovely Fall day in Illinois today. I am going to head out to the library and then play a round of golf. It's unbelievable that we are still on the golf course the first week in November! I should be organizing my desk, too instead of "playing" today but I rationalize by saying that I will have lots of days later in the month and in December to get indoor chores completed.

    Everyone have a good weekend.

Good morning everyone! What a beautiful sunny day here today. It's 61 degrees and dry. We really needed the rain we missed yesterday but oh well it'll rain when it rains.

I have to work at least part of today. Sure wish I was able to come and go as I want to but I can't. We own a business plus we farm and I'm the bookkeeper and payroll maker so I guess I'll work at least part time until I leave this earth.

I love knitting, quilting etc. don't get to do much of that though. My DH is going to go get ready for deer season at our other house west of Van Buren and wanted me to go. But it's a lot of trouble for me to go for just the weekend. But I might just go this time. I love it over there. I bet the trees are beautiful too. We are still setting the house up with beds and dining room things. I plan on taking extra sets of my knitting tools, yarn, and a sewing machine over there. Then maybe I'll one day get to stay for more than a day or two at a time.

You all have a good day today. We need to name ourselves The Pinky Sisterhood! We could call ourselves Pinkies Ha! Ha!

Sure nice here. Lots of sun but it won't get past the upper 60's today so nice weather for doing things. I can't wash the car in this weather, but I don't mind the car wash this time of yr. We are finally seeing some settling of the white chat on the roads. I still hate that some drive so fast that it is impossible to keep your car clean, but it is getting better. Some of the heavier rains helped a lot.

Got my check book balanced and only two more bills to pay. It has been far better ( a couple of scares ) to get used to paying with a debit Card than I thought it would ever be. Dh has had one for a long time, but still managed to "screw" up his check-book a time or two. So I had visions of really losing control, but as I am nearly paranoid about keeping track --- it has turned into the Godsend it might have been for me for far longer. Dh has always had issues with keeping up. He is good at spending, but keeping track, hmmm.

Hope you are all having fantastic weather. Though we shy from certain subjects here I will say ----- I'm sooooo glad we only have four campaign days left till we vote. It has been a rough campaign season.

Though I'm not a baseball fan, being from Chicago, I'm watching the CUBS parade. Glad they have good weather. I have never seen soooo many people in Downtown Chicago! Can you imagine trying to get home, or needing to to go to the bathroom! Don't see any porta potties! Good to see something other than politics!

I'm happy for the Cubs and their fans. A prep school here says Lester was one of their students.

Washington is all vote by mail. I voted and turned in my ballot, but it hasn't stopped the radio or TV from talking only about the election. Thank goodness I can skip the political stuff on the internet.

Sunny and 51 here so far. We will probably get up to 60 or so. Rain starts again tomorrow, so must get out and enjoy today.

    Morning everyone,

Beautiful just a little less than crispy out -- lower 60's today. I think I'll sent a batch to Carole who could use some I think. We are still pretty much covered in leaves and more coming. Dh has a machine ( I may have mentioned it already ) to deal with the leaves this yr. I didn't have time to look it over, but quick glances to it made me think of a big sort of rotating fan attached to what looked like a gasoline powered lawn mower. He seemed to think ( what little bit of the lawn he was able to do ) that it really worked well. I hope so. It will save his back, neck, and hopefully everything else. If it works good enough -- then who knows --- maybe we will get another one so we can have two people working on the FALL around here. Just have to see

Otherwise, a normal day for me. Errands in addition to work. Of course, in those errands is my almost daily trek/drive to Walmart. If we have to have the Walmart here ( that drove many others out and could claim more ) I am glad that they built the new Super Walmart. Ambivalent as I was from the first minute I heard about it. The thing is that I often ( far from as much as I do now ) drove the 17 miles away over to one of the surrounding towns here to avail myself of the grocery store and a couple of other areas that seemed a bit fuller than our small Walmart here. So -- since I guess I was going to do so anyway ---- at least I can stay in town now. I still just hate that others can't be successful when the big Walmarts swoop down and take over.

Ritajean, I killed off an entire bag of Whole Foods taco chips (they are da bomb), a bowl of truffle popcorn and more than a couple kolačky watching the game. Mid-60s here today, even by the lake. Didn’t make it to the parade or rally—yesterday, my housekeeper had to take her husband to his medical appts. at the V.A. so I had to stay home for the Peapod grocery delivery and the monthly exterminator visit. But I did watch it on TV. I was disappointed that when they got to singing “Go Cubs Go,” led by country singer (and downstater Brett Eldredge—who grew up a Cards fan) nobody bothered to thank the late great Steve Goodman, who wrote and recorded that song just weeks before he died. It’s his record everyone in the stands sings along to after every home win. (And on SNL tonight too).

Then I voted and then got a long-overdue car wash. Grilled a ribeye because I could. This morning I had Bar Show rehearsal down in the S. Loop. The L was packed, even as far north as my neighborhood—people were still going down to Wrigley to take selfies in front of the marquee and write messages in chalk on the brick walls (especially to departed Cubs fans who never lived to see this day). And they were all going down to the Loop to buy souvenirs at Macy’s and all the sports clothing stores. Just as crowded on the train at 1pm as it was at 8:30—and on a Saturday!

Rehearsal was exhausting, because choreography has started (we open in less than a month!). I now see 20/20 in both eyes since my cataract surgery Wed., but my eye’s still light-sensitive and pink, though the swelling’s gone. And I still need reading correction, so I kept having to switch between my readers for the sheet music and making dance notation and my Wayfarers for everything else. I got home achy and exhausted—we practiced a hip-hop Cubs dance number six times, including a video to learn it better….for a flash mob of it we’re doing in a couple of weeks.

Beautiful Sunday morning here --- actually proving to me what a bad job I actually did on my deck windows. I washed them late yesterday afternoon --- tired of all the cobwebs. We have deck lights above the windows so they become a home for lots of outdoors spiders who love night months to visit and not be able to go home. Well, that will give me something to focus on this afternoon ---- straightening out the windows.

It is calm out now -- not seeing much for wind and don't feel it either. Too bad Dh has to work this afternoon --- he could use the new push leaf blower. I've a feeling that he and I both will be wishing he had gotten one yrs. ago. It looks intriguing but I'm staying away --- sometimes men need to do some chores on their own. We will see -- how long that lasts.

Not too many plans as yet for things to do. We are working on our re-arrangements for having a new furnace installed inside the house rather than the big outdoor commercial one we have use since we bought this house. We are looking forward to seeing the monster ( it is pretty large out there ) disappear from right next to our deck. It also tended to seem very loud in summer when out on the deck. We will have the a/c unit ( very sm. in comparison ) pretty much out in the same place --- because it makes sense to use the wiring etc. already at that place.

Otherwise I'm just going to enjoy this day and just be grateful and happy. The first of the week will be fairly busy for us. On Tues. I have a hair appt. as well as beginning my extras for my job. Dr. and wife are going for their anniversary on a trip so I will take care of my patient and the little dogs at home for them ( the dogs we know wouldn't like a kennel ) and make a little extra --- not much, but a bit. That is always good for me --- and oh, yes. Dh I think, has the day off so we can both go and vote together sometime during the day. Yea --- so good to have that over. We have some frozen pizzas in the freezer so that will be supper that day.

Hope you all have a sunshiny day.

Today I took my mother to her house for noon dinner. My niece was there with her three children and we celebrated the youngest child's upcoming 7th birthday. It was good to see the other two children who live with their father in MS. The boy is 13 and the girl is 11. By 3 pm everyone was leaving and my mother was tired and ready to go back to the nursing home. It amazes me and makes me grateful that she is so practical and accepts the reality that she can no longer manage on her own. There are no tears and no drama when we leave although I know it must make her sad that she had to leave the home where she lived for so many years.

Oh, I forgot to say that my dh came and brought the Popeye's fried chicken and my sister and her dh were there with some side dishes and my sister's son and his significant other were there. The SO is pregnant. Can they afford a child? No, but they both seem happy about becoming parents.

Hope everyone had a good Sunday.

Sure happy to hear about your Mother, Carole. Maybe you too are just a little sad --- I was, when my Mother started having to be satisfied with, in some cases, much of her life that brought her joy before. Noted though, it does at least have some power to soothe that your Mom realizes how un-workable being in her home would be. I'm really glad that occasions come where she can spend some time in her 'home'.

Hope things can work out okay for your sister's son and SO. Sometimes I think it could be an impetus ( don't know about them ) to really try harder ( now that they have a HUGE reason ) to do what it takes to get life together for all concerned. Glad you got to see ALL of your niece's children this time. That must have felt really good.

Sunny pretty day here -- not too hot o cold. Likely some rain could come tomorrow. Going to get my hair done ( perm ) so will have to take along a rain hat just in case --- and keep it with me all day. Have some SKI soda and frozen pizza's to make for tomorrow night's dinner --- and then I'm sure we will be extremely glued to the t.v. for the duration.

For anyone interested --- Dh and I do not drink much soda. Never did much, but I've found Sierra Mist and now Ski ( only so far in the glass bottles ) that have real sugar in them. The artificial sugars in many cases get bad raps. I do use Splenda which seems to be okay for me but anything with Aspartame in it ( any artificial sweetener ) really makes me feel ugly awful --- so since I drink so little soda over all ---- I tend to look for ones that are sweetened with real table-type sugars. Also, Sierra Mist and Ski are white sodas.....meaning no dark color agents added. All of that makes me seem probably like a fanatic but these are for me just a couple of adjustments that are easy for me to make --- so they get done --- and oh the many that don't. I really do need to do better.

Whew! I just paid off the loan for our solar panels. The balance was due interest free on Nov. 23 so I'm getting the payment in a little early. A rebate from the state and a federal tax write-off took care of the bigger part and we had to pay $5000 of the total $25,000. I wasn't in favor of investing in the panels but dh can't resist technology. Our electric bill is now $11 a month so maybe we'll stay in this house long enough to get our money's worth.

I went to the gym this morning and had an interesting conversation with an elderly man named Victor who is under hospice care. He was an architect and I had enjoyed talking to him on previous occasions before his health declined so drastically. He's from New York originally and grew up in the Bronx. It makes me sad that his life is coming to an end. He was accompanied by a care giver. The YMCA has a small area with tables and chairs just inside the entry door and people gather there and visit, before and/or after they exercise. Victor isn't allowed to exercise any more but he likes to come and visit. I was reminded of how we need to treasure every day of "normal" life.

I'll be glad to vote tomorrow and have the election over. I'm glad to see the stock market rebounding as Hillary edges ahead in the polls. The market has been steadily going down as Trump's percentages rose.

I should get up and do some work. Happy Monday to all.

Ah, Sandy, believe in positive good. But I do love your "descriptions". I think we all need this one over for so many reasons -- mainly so much that was negative. I do believe a "good" candidate will win tomorrow. Then we can all get back to being us.

Good point Carole. Life can change so fast. I am glad Victor is keeping the YMCA entry as a place that he can continue to come to, to enjoy some of his previous normalcy. Life, even full of ups and downs is a blessing and a gift. I do try and be grateful each day by saying thanks each night with the hope and prayer that the coming day will be just as special and cherished.

In a world in which we are exposed to more information, more options, more philosophies, more perspectives than ever before, in which we must choose the values by which we will live (rather than unquestioningly follow some tradition for no better reason than that our own parents did), we need to be willing to stand on our own judgment and trust our own intelligence—to look at the world through our own eyes—to chart our course and think through how to achieve the future we want, to commit ourselves to continuous questioning and learning—to be, in a word, self-responsible.

I didn’t necessarily have a dog in that fight (except spiritually of course), because my husband & I are safely on Medicare (and being native-born and not Muslim are in no danger of deportation). But I fear for my just-this-side-of-senior-citizen friends who have either ACA policies or are in danger of losing their jobs and therefore their employer-provided health insurance. And our son has to hold on to his miserably inadequate high-deductible non-ACA policy because if he drops it and looks for a better one, without the ACA in force, carriers would be free to refuse to insure him due to his asthma and depression. (Although we’ve never filed an insurance claim for psych visits or meds for the latter).

On the bright side, my left eye is healing nicely and I might even be able to be refracted for glasses (reading correction in both eyes, slight distance in the left) tomorrow.

I love that quote, Jackie. Dickinson was always a favorite poet of mine. We visited her home once when we were in the New England states.

I have been thinking about you the last couple of days because I know you are in political mourning, too. But the sun did come up this morning! May that be a positive sign of hope for our country.

Dh and I went to the gym this morning and I came home soaked with perspiration as is always the case. I am such a perspirer. I have started wearing only white tee shirts to exercise because they don't look as disgusting when sweat-soaked as a colored tee shirt.

Today is Thursday, one of the three days I go to the nursing home to lend support to my mother. She was given an opportunity to have an hour of physical therapy three times a week and gladly took it. Since finishing therapy full time, she has declined in the strength she'd gained.

Happy Thursday to all and hugs to those struggling with issues.

When one begins to practice simplicity, the ego is deprived of the very
strategy by which it sustains itself.Nothing will deflate the ego more
effectively than to be recognized for what it is.It lives by pretension.
It dies when the mask is torn away and the stark reality is exposed to
the gaze of others.Simplicity also avails in braking the tyranny of things.

Ostentation, artificiality, ornamentation, pretentious style, luxury—all
require things. One requires few things to be one's self, one's age, and
one's moral, intellectual, or spiritual stature. What one is does
not depend upon what one has.
