6 Month Recheck Soon Received Call Today That Made Me Nervous!!
Hi all!! I'm a bit nervous and just needed to let out my feelings and ask if this is normal?
I have to go for my 6 month check on Dec. 30 due to a Birds 3 result. This was my first mammogram and ultrasound so there is nothing to compare the findings to. In any event I have been dealing pretty good, I go thru phases of panic and phases of it will be ok.... Today I received a call to change my appointment because the radiologist wont be in at that time and she wants to read the results while I'm there....This has made me so nervous! I was assured that the radiologist likes to read the day of with rechecks while the patient is there to get results right away. That is great and all but I've read many times that many woman wait days to get results on rechecks....this makes me think that maybe something is wrong like she is having second thoughts on the initial finding...I know my imagination is probably running wild.....Just needed to let my feelings out!
For those of you that had 6 month re checks how did it work for you as far as when and how you got your results?
Thank you!!

hi Sara!
It's so healthy to let your feelings out!
I don't have the same situation, but I do have to go see the oncologist every six months, so I understand the anxiety u are experience!
I will pray for you for strength, comfort, calm.

I would never go for testing if the radiologist wasn't there to read the results right away. I think it's inhumane to make you wait. So, I would consider this a good thing to change your time, not anything scary

Sara, it is extremely common for the first imaging after treatment to be classified as BI-RADS 3 (probably benign) as there is nothing for comparison.
Secondly, it is also very common for the first couple of mammograms after treatment to be treated as "diagnostic mammograms" (e.g., you wait while the radiologist reads the images and are immediately available if additional views are needed). Again, this is because there are so many changes to the tissues after surgery/radiation that clarification is frequently needed.
After the first few "diagnostic mammograms" future imaging will probably revert to the previous screening protocol. This is actually a good thing as screening mammograms are mandated to be covered in full under the ACA (no out of pocket expenses) whereas diagnostic mammograms are not.
All of the above is based on information provided by my BS's office. I hope it helps.

Thank you @Jujube2 thank you so much for taking the time and responding to me. This is such a roller coaster ride! I will be keeping you on my thoughts and prayers.
