Hi!

I just had a lumpectomy two days ago to remove my 2cm tumor and do a sentinel node biopsy. Non of my nodes looked suspicious on ultrasound., or MRI. She told my mom that onlyone node took on the dye. Is this a good thing? I've heard of doctors taking more, just wondered if it was good that she only took one. Now to wait the 7-10 days.. Pray for clear margins and negative nodes.

    Hi Cherry02031978:

The number of sentinel nodes depends on your personal anatomy, and is typically from one to three nodes. I had one sentinel node on one side, and four nodes removed on the other.

Sending good wishes for the best possible pathology results.

    Hi Cherry,

I also had only one sentinel node removed. I was surprised it was only one but turns out that is not unusual.

    Good luck, Luna

    Hi Cherry02031978:

All nodes were clear by H&E staining during the mastectomy procedure. The nodes were examined more thoroughly as part of the post-surgical pathology. The four nodes on the side with IDC were still clear (0/4, pN0). I had an unusual situation on the pure DCIS side, where they found isolated tumor cells in the one node using immuno-histochemical (IHC) methods (0/1, pN0i+), but it was still considered node-negative.

Hoping your nodes are totally clear and your margins wide!
