Great article in NY Times about Choosing No Reconstruction

Options

Flat Article NY Times wonderful article for those of us who have chosen flat or may need or want to make the choice to do so. I was discouraged by many medically and personally before and after my surgery in January this year when I had made the decision and knew it was the right decision for me.

Had I been younger, I may have chosen differently but this article is about women far younger than me and I am proud of them.

My goal was the best outcome with the least risk so that meant one surgery.

Personally I am very happy with my decision and I too am stillin pain and cannot wear a bra or prosthetics which I had hoped to but I go to therapy and stretch and do yoga and exercise and am still healing so I hope with time that will change and I am ok if I does not.

I do not like the nasty bits left by my surgeon and may choose to have some cleanup done next year after I (and plastic surgeon) feel I am fully healed.

Glad to read this is becoming a more respected choice for women.

It was an excellent article. I wish I could be in something like that... I'd go all Lady Gaga and rock the flat. : )

This is an excellent article and one I wish I had read before my BMX. I so regret reconstruction and will probably pay for my decision the rest of my life, in pain.

that's exactly the reason i didn't have any reconstruction. i just didn't want to go in and out of the hospital that often and really got no time to constantly take time off work.

i assume i was pretty flat pre cancer so it wasn't that hard for me to make that decision.

This is a great article. I had a mastectomy with a reduction on the other side at the same time. I asked for no bigger than a B but I was left with a D. I would give anything to go back and just take it down to an A- . I do not enjoy the hassle of trying to constantly balance my chest, and would love to just slip in to a little padded sport bra and a tank top. I never once missed my breast, it was so weird - I just could not imagine do anything else invasive to my body. Caveat - just my experince, certainly not "the right" one, but was weird that it was one of the few times in my life Ihad no conflict with a big decision.
