Two biopsies scheduled
I had a lumpectomy & radiation in 2007 and really considered breast cancer to be in my rear-view mirror. My mom is a 36-yr survivor. My sister is a 21-yr survivor. I just assumed I would have the same uneventful journey as them.
But I went last week for a diagnostic mammogram because I was worried about a thickened place on the margin of my lumpectomy site on Ms. Leftie. After mammogram, 3-D mammogram an ultrasound, they concluded that I needed a biopsy of that old surgical site but also a lump in the right breast, one I still can't feel. At least the ultrasound didn't spot any scary places in my armpit. The biopsies are scheduled for this Thursday. I'm steeled for a recurrence &/or a new primary. At least, I'm trying to be steeled.
I've got a million possibilities and details running thru my mind. This is so far from what I thought I'd be doing now

Sorry you have to deal with this hoping you get results quickly, and that they're benign. Keep us posted.

Thank you

Both are high grade invasive ductal. I'm going to lose both breasts. And probably have chemo. That'll be a first for me even though this is my 3rd dance with cancer (BC in 2007, endometrial in 2011).
Meeting with the surgeon in a couple of weeks.
Overwhelmed, sad, and sometimes brave.

Sorry to hear that Armecia! I hoped you'd checked back in to tell us some good news, but alas, it was not to be. ((Hugs))

Armecia, I am sorry the results were malignant. Look through the surgery threads on BMX. You will find really helpful tips. I know one thing I did that is not listed anywhere is in the few weeks before the surgery, anytime I stood up from a chair, recliner, bed, etc, I never used my arms. My legs and abs did the work. This helped sooooo much because you can't use your arms to help you stand for the first few weeks.
The first couple weeks, when you have no plan, are mentally the hardest. Hoping once your plan is in place, that you will plow through

Thanks ElaineT for the encouragement.
KBeee, I think that's great advice! I was thinking the same thing earlier today. Started already? I've looked at some of the surgery posts. Getting some good info on what to expect and items I'll need.
I'm certain that I don't want reconstruction. I want the most straightforward surgery with the quickest recovery and the lowest chance of complications. I'll be talking to the surgeon about him achieving a clean, no dog-ear result. The other big question I have is if we can do the sentinel node procedure on they side with the old lumpectomy.
Anyway, thanks for your coaching!
