Just diagnosed IDC- waiting for PET--lymph ?

Hi,

I recently had a breast MRI and then core biopsy which showed a mass and enlarged lymph nodes. My path report came back on the lymph node portion as invasive mammary carcinoma in fibroadispose tissue. Comment was lymph node not seen in tissue sections. Does anyone know what this means? Did they miss getting a node in biopsy? Dr made it seem unclear and I am to call Friday and set up PET scan for whole body check.

Nervous for PET scan and praying all comes out negative.

Appreciate any feedback-thoughts, etc.

Thx

Traci

With my recurrence, I was told that I had a positive "lymph node". They then told me the next day that this was not a lymph node at all, that it was IDC, but no lymph tissue was found. In my post anesthesia-drugged-state, I barked at the doctor asking what it means and why the pathologists don't know what it is, etc, etc, etc. They sent it to Mayo. It came back as yours says. It was IDC, but it was not in a lymph node as they thought; it was a small tumor growing in the soft tissue. For me, since it was a recurrence after a mastectomy, it meant it was a regional recurrence, and they had to radiate a slightly bigger area. My PET was clear; hoping yours is as well. PM me with any questions.
