I just had my 4 month check yesterday and it coincided with my 3 year cancer anniversary. It is also one of the first times that I went in w/o any real questions of "could this be something". So, MO took blood and I went on my way.

Today I'm realizing just how little is done or maybe can be done to know if there is a recurrence. I suppose if the blood work looks wonky, they'll go from there, but other than that I go back in 4 months and that is that. IDK, it is just one of the things that I will probably never get used to about cancer...the ever present unknown and how little can be done.

hi there - I've been posting on other threads about the agony of 3 monthly PET scans, which I'm on because my team think my cancer resisted both chemo and tamoxifen. I just had a clear one - but have been through hell this past week. I now long for the low-key check in... The grass is always greener... Also my Onc friend told me that possibly only once in her whole career did she find something at a check up that the patient wasn't already aware of. So - unless you want to swap places with me on the scans (you're welcome!!!) the check in protocol and your own awareness are probably the best safeguard. In terms of what you can do - I'm pursuing Ibrance as a recurrence preventer. Let's lobby! Good luck x
