Flying with Pleural Effusion?

Options

Hello,

I will be moving to Miami to be with my daughter and begin treatment there. CT scans have shown moderate fluid on one side of my lungs and minimal on another. I have had shortness of breath and I've noticed it's a little worse than it was a few weeks ago. I also have a cough at the moment. Anyone have any experience with this? I asked my Oncologist here in New Jersey but he said he can't really give me an answer besides "people do it all the time" but that he couldn't tell me yes because he's not a pulmonologist.

Thanks for your help!

Catalina

    Hi Catalina-

Is there anyway you can consult with a local pulmonologist before your flight? We agree, people certainly do it all the time, but we understand not wanting to take the risk without some sort of guidance. Everything could be fine, but there are very real risks involved, so it's best to be safe than sorry!
