Help please--can it be back so soon?
Hello everyone,
I am in desperate need of advice or words of wisdom. I was dx'd with TN last October. I had 6 months of AC + T (finished July 6) and 6 weeks of rads (finished in Sept).
I felt a pea-shaped lump last week in the same place where the cancer was last time. It is where the scar of my lumpectomy is. Can it be just part of the scar? Or can the cancer be back so soon? I am seeing my BS tomorrow, but I am a basket case. I don't think I can go through this again. I did everything right. I did all the treatments. I am freaking out. Please talk me down.

Sorry to hear your having trouble. My experience with that was a pea shaped hard lump at the end of my incision from the masectomy. It was growing and a concern to two doc. The surgeon said scar tissue doesn't grow. This kept growing so we decided to biopsy it. Instead we took the whole thing out. Just scar tissue. Some people grow scar tissue. It was a big mistake to cut into skin that has undergone radiation. Good luck

Hi Citrinetiff - take a deep breath...
It is always important to get things checked out as soon as possible. But remember you are stage 1. Your chances of recurrence should be pretty low, still possible but low. More often that naught it turns out be scar tissue, but that said I have been where you are. My scar tissue has been annoying the heck out of me for years because I swear it is growing. This has been going on for 3 years and my doctor says it is fine. I am still alive so I guess they are right. I gained weight and that may be part of the problem.
You are looking into it and that is the most important thing. Take a deep breath and try and do something you enjoy to take your mind off this for a bit and get you through the day My thoughts are with you.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly.
I hope it is just scar tissue. I guess I will know more tomorrow.
My pea shaped lump is in the middle of the scar tissue, and I don't know if that makes a difference.

Myscar tissue is pretty much growing evenly across the top half of my scar. Cancer sucks.
-
Thank you, everyone, for talking me off the ledge. Maybe it's just scar tissue.

keep coming back

keep coming back. I guess you have me concerned for you. I hope it's resolved to everyone's satisfaction.

JC, thank you. I am seeing my doctor tomorrow, and I will come here to post what he says. Hopefully, it is just scar tissue.

The good news is that the lump I feel is fat necrosis.
The bad news is that a lung nodule I had in January, before I started chemo, has grown. I am having a PET scan tomorrow, and I have been referred to a respirologist (lung specialist) and a surgeon. I am obviously freaking out.

Hi Critinetiff - I am so sorry that you are going through such a stressful time. It is good that they are following you so closely. Hopefully it will be nothing of important but it is good that they are scanning to confirm.
I also had several lung nodules when I was diagnosed but truthfully I have no clue if they grew because they never really did much of a follow up after treatment. So I know your stress! Take care, I am thinking of you.

Kayrem, Thank you. I will know more in the following days/weeks. Hopefully, it is nothing.
