Hi I had an operation a week ago as I have Paget's which was diagnoised from a biopsy, I needed 2 as they weren't 100% sure 2nd biopsy confirmed Paget's and dcis, I think they said they had only taken 3mm for biopsy does that make sense? I had had a mammogram and ultra sound both clear, I had my nipple removed and I think it's called a cone something to remove the dcis, the dr said he took a large area around nipple and went deep, results should be back next Wednesday. What are the statics to have clear margins does anyone know I've been disappointed at every visit I don't want to get my hopes up my dr is an excellent dr so I. Hoping and praying that he got it all

Lorri70, I strongly feel that your surgeon would have taken a "chunk" of tissue much

larger than the lesion; pathology reports will tell if he took what they call "healthy margins"

which are tumor-free; I do not know the current statistics, but from what you have written

it sounds like your surgeon is on track. DCIS (in situ) is stage 0 and confined to a tiny

area in the milk duct and if it was close to the base of the nipple, it sounds to me that

your surgeon took a generous amount with a "clear and viable margin". I know that

anticipating final results is torture, but keep good thoughts, eat your favorite "comfort

food", watch your favorite movie and before you know it the waiting will be over. Happy

thoughts for a positive prognosis and BIG HUGS TO YOU! And I will wait with you if

    you like.

Loir70, it is very common for to have to go in a second time, as DCIS is not visible so they are doing a 'best guess'.
