Mom just diagnosed

hello everyone, not sure if I'm in the right place to be posting, it's my mom that was diagnosed not me. After noticing a lump during a routine mammogram, she had an biopsy last week and got the news Monday its cancerous. I don't have a ton of information right now, I'm going with her to meet a breast surgeon tomorrow. From what I do know, the dr who called her with the results said 'it's very small and very early'. He said she would need a lumpectomy and chemo & radiation. They also did a ultrasound of her lymph nodes and said they all looked normal


I'm so upset I don't even know what to do. It sounds like they caught it early and she'll be ok, but this is my worst nightmare come true. I'm trying to be as supportive as I can, but it's hard because I'm 22w pregnant and have a 3 year old to take care of.


I've been reading as much as I can to prepare myself for this journey, I was so happy we could get in to see the surgeon already this week...I thought for sure by next week she'd be having the surgery. Now I'm reading there's more testing and it could be a month or more?! I'm just sad and confused. My mom is 67, I'm 37 and I feel like a lost child. My mom is always the one I talk to my problems about. She obviously knows I'm upset, but I don't want her to know how upset I am, I don't want her worrying about me, I just want her to take care of herself.

    Hi. From your post, your mom was to meet with the surgeon at this point. What type was your mom diagnosed with? Do you know if it's hormone positive? Do you know the stage/grade? My mom was diagnosed three weeks ago with ILC Stage 1. I spoke with the surgeon and asked him to order an MRI BEFORE any further surgery or treatment is done. MRI scans are sensitive enough to show her type of cancer and to see if it has spread. It makes sense to me to find this out before anything further is done. He agreed. It's scheduled for October 30. It's incredibly difficult waiting!! Both my mom and I have healthcare backgrounds so we are going into this with a lot of knowledge already fortunately but there can also be drawbacks to knowing so much as we're now finding out. We are completely stunned with her diagnosis and I'm doing everything I can (research)to help her with this process.
