Vitamins during radiation

Options

I cannot believe that I had two treatments left and asked my oncologist what other vitamins I could take to boost my energy when she responded "you shouldn't have been taking any." I about fainted. One, I was never told this; and two, I never filled it out on any form that I was taking them because there wasn't a question asked about it. Just medications. She said that there was some studies done that vitamin A, C and E will not kill the cells during rads. Has anyone been told this? I know for chemo that you shouldn't take them but I didn't do chemo. I'm just so upset about it. I have followed every rule. It is just so frustrating to me.

T - my RO told me it was o.k. to continue taking my multi-vit. and Vitamin D, as well as things such as fish oil and a calcium combination, etc. during RT - just no large doses of any. I don't know if that helps any?

PS - congratulations on wrapping up your RT!

Throughout chemo a d rads, took Vit D for my SAD and a B complex with my Dr's approval. In my Pre Chemo Education, it was discussed that only certain Vit/Min could be taken - not multi Vit/Min as some can effect how chemo 'works'. This true for many medications as Vit/Min and herbs can have an effect on how they work. It was stressed no grapefruit or pomegranate, no garlic supplements either. Could use fresh garlic in cooking. I did develope a problem with keeping K (potassium) levels up 1/2 way through Taxol so had to start taking it - still have to.

Different forms are different I guess, the ones I get given to fill out say "List everything you take".
