Mental Hygiene?
Not sure where to put this. There is so much woo-woo out there about keeping a positive attitude, and I do not want to belong to the attitude police.
Need to change some things, however.
I've been depressed and sedentary at home and stressed beyond reason at work. Too much coffee and sweets at work helped to soothe the stress. Beer and TV at home helped with the boredom.
New Me exercises after work and doesn't drink at home, but I'm having trouble giving up TV altogether, so I'm trying to find elevating or intelligent programs without a lot of physical and emotional violence. It's all fighting and shooting all the time! Even the documentaries on Netflix are all about murders, wars, or animals killing and eating each other. (I know: it's a jungle out there.)
Looking for suggestions of shows or movies that won't be upsetting/unpleasant.
What do you watch?

When I need it, I like Curb your Enthusiasm. I find it very funny myself. Not heavy in any way shape or form. If you don't mind rude and crude, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is good for a laugh. I also like Family Guy and the Simpsons. Most of the other shows I watch are the kind you are not looking for.

If you have Netflix search for Bob Ross' painting show. OMG...LOVE it, I used to watch years ago to relax and it is still great. He has a soothing voice and watching him paint just lulls me. These are older shows from PBS, so keep that in mind, but I swear by it!

Not sure what your local PBS station is. But you may be able to access PBS at www.pbs.org . Lots of good content there. Masterpiece, Nova, Nature, etc. Lots of arts programing, as well as documentaries, and good drama, etc.
You may also want to look into mindfulness/meditation programs for breast cancer. There are free podcasts from the UCLA's MARC (Mindfulness Awareness Research Center). I participated in one of their research studies and found the mindfulness practices very helpful. There are also weekly podcasts from the Hammer. There are a number of these also listed, so you should be able to find a number of sessions.

My 2 favorite shows are Doc Martin and Grand Design, both from the UK. Love the music in both of them. Doc Martin is a sitcom about a quirky dr in a gorgeous Cornwall setting. Grand Design follows dreamers as they create unusual houses, almost always over budget and way over deadlines. The host loves to give his opinions and we end up loving the families and their crazy
homes by the end of each show. Both shows are very relaxing and have positive outlooks -
Netflix had a documentary series called "chefs table" that we lived... But sometimes need brain candy like "Big Bang theory "....just for a no think kind of laugh.

I forgot about Big Bang Theory! There are many seasons of that, too, that I haven't seen. And cooking and home decor are also good suggestions. Real people doing normal things.
Much more realistic than the crime dramas I used to watch. I also love British TV. Sad that I don't get any broadcast programming, due to not having an antenna or cable service. Just Netflix, for me, and Amazon Prime.
Bob Ross's hair makes me nervous (what's hiding in there?). But I like a soothing voice. I'll check him out.
And mindfulness is something I've decided is crucial to this stage of my life.
Thank you for the suggestions.
