DCIS 6 weeks Radiation
I have had two surgerys to get a clear margin. It does not go to the chest wall. I believe the next stage will beto get radiation. I would like to hear from other women who have had radiation.
How did you feel during and after 6weeks of radiation? How tired? How burnt? Will I feel up to sitting my grandkids two weeks after the treatment? 3weeks, 4 weeks after?

Hi Crazyknitter, and welcome to Breastcancer.org!
You've come to the right place for support and answers -- others will surely be by shortly to weigh in with their thoughts and experiences with radiation therapy.
You may also want to post your question in the Radiation Therapy forum, specifically, you may want to visit the Fall 2016 Radiation thread where members who are currently undergoing radiation share their experiences and support each other. You're sure to get great insight there!
We hope this helps!

I agree with Moderators that you may get more responses in the Radiation section as it doesn’t really matter what type of cancer you had - the radiation is the same.
That said, I’ll share my experience with you here, LOL. For me, I experience no real burning. Some redness in the area of the boots at the end, but no worse than a mild sunburn. I did use aloe religiously 3x a day during treatment - don’t know if it was that or if I was just lucky. As for fatigue, I did have some but it wasn’t paralyzing by any means .... more just that I needed to go to bed a bit earlier during and for a few weeks after. I would say the worst was probably the first week after and it improved rapidly after that. I was able to run a 5K (and set a personal best) 3 weeks after finishing.
I don’t know how old your grandkids are, but I kept the usual schedule of schlepping my then 9 and 12 year old around to sports practices, Bat Mitzvah lessons and PT (the 12 year old broke her hand a couple weeks before I was diagnosed). I even took the 9 year old on a trip to Disney for a gymnastics meet right in the middle.
That’s my experience though - everyone is different.

Hi, about nine years ago I had DCIS, lumpectomy and radiation, the most difficult part was recovering from the surgery, but I had no issues with the radiation. It did not make me tired and I didn't feel burned. The nurse gave me something to put on my breast a cream that I can't remember, but I was okay. Ask the nurse what you can but on your breast, actually I remember it was Aquafor.

I had 6 weeks of radiation and only the week when I finished did it burn real bad. None of the creams worked, but I did get SEA SALT and bathed for about 20 mins every night in lukewarm water. Never used any cream after that and no burn marks at all. When I saw my surgeon 2 months later he could asked me if I had gone for radiation as there was no signs. Everyone is different but that's what helped me.
