HI,

I am trying to figure out what route to go for nipple reconstruction and I can't find anyone talking about it- Can someone loop me in on a discussion? I would like to hear some opinions.

Many thanks,

personally, I am feeling like I will forgo new nipples. I plan on having pretty floral tattoos over both breasts. I just don't want to go through yet another procedure. Also, I would feel.more self concious with them poking out all the time. With no feeling in them, for myself, I just don't see the point. I'm ok without them.

I just had nipple recon on Monday using the origami procedure. I get stitches out in about 10 days. So far, so good. The only things is because I have a prominent nipple on my "good" side, he made the fipple extra long because they shrink a LOT after they are fully healed. However, I did not realize how much skin would be required, so I kind of feel like my foob now looks more squashed from the skin being so tight. I hope that settles out in time. The procedure itself was easy-peasy. My BS did it in his office with just local anesthesia. I had no pain or discomfort at all.

Hi Svanlente and welcome to Breastcancer.org!

Thanks for posting -- if you'd like to meet others considering alternatives to nipple reconstruction, such as nipple tattoos, you may want to check out the more active Nipple Reconstruction thread. We hope this helps and look forward to hearing more from you soon!

I just had my nipple recon 2 weeks ago. My PS did areola and nipples. He used skin from along the tummy scar from my DIEP to make the areolas. (and did a little extra lipo to smooth out the love handles) I think this procedure is called a skate flap? The areolas look great and because theyou are scar tissue they are a different texture and color from the breast. The nipples still look like valve stems, but they will shrink.
