MRI results shows enhancement
I was dig-noised last week by mammogram/ core biopsy as DCIS grade 3 on my left breast last week. My Dr asked me to do additional MRI check because I have a very dense breast.
Now the MRI result comes back shows an enhancement (10mm*8mm) which is in a different spot of left breast. So I will need to do an Ultrasound or MRI guided biopsy. Does any one know anything for this?
What will I face again?

MRI is not 100%, even if the docs make you believe it is. My twin had enhancement, biopsy, and it was b-9. I had the exact same spot that showed enhancement and mine was cancer.
Not sure what your question is...yes, they will do a biopsy. Mine did not show up on ultrasound, even after the MRI, so I had to get a second MRI to find the mass and get the biopsy.
You can't know what you'll face till you get results. Try not to stress (I know, so easy to say) until they tell you what you're dealing with. I wish you luck and a b-9 result!

Hi Wallycat,
Thanks for your reply. I guess my question is, considering I already have a DCIS area in my left breast, this new finding under MRI, what is the possibility that could be? Another DCIS or what.
Just wondering what type of cancer that MRI is more easier to detect while being missed by mamogram.

I just finished US test, and both the Technician and radiologist can not find anything on US. So I have no idea what is going on. The technician told me that my MRI said the area is 10x8mm, which seems to be a big size in US definition, so US should detect it if there is something wrong.
In that case, I have to wait for my Dr's call to see if I need to schedule to do MRI guided biopsy, because US can't see it.
The waiting and unknown result is so so annoying. I am just like taking the roller coaster, up and down, every movement is making me anxious...

My1.1 cm was only seen on MRI. Not seen on mammo, ultrasound, or thermogram. I did not have an MRI guided biopsy and the mass was missed on excisional biopsy. IMO the MRI guided biopsy is the way to go.

Lobular cancer is sneaky and MRI is typically the gold standard for picking it up. I'm happy to hear you have a proactive doctor.
My 7mm mass on MRI turned out to be 1.8cm in real life. You can't plan and know anything till ..well...you know. Best to you.

I had scheduled the biopsy next Wed, tomorrow I will talk to my Dr, if we decide to go with MX for my diagnosed DCIS then I might not do the biopsy since it will be exam-ed anyway in the MX.

Hi. I just had an MRI guided biopsy yesterday. It was a much easier process than I anticipated. No actual pain beyond uncomfortable in MRI - hard to raise arms over head for long time because of lymphedema from lumpectomy 18 years ago. My "area" did not show on Ultrasound, either. It showed on a PET scan and the first MRI so I was scheduled for an Ultra Sound guided biopsy which could not be completed cause they could not see the spot. My second MRI, done yesterday, showed the area and a biopsy was accomplished. I had a very small prick when doctor started numbing but I would not even call it pain - momentary mild experience when I thought "Here it comes." but then - nothing beyond a bit of pressure. My concern about pain before the procedure was more difficult than any discomfort during actual procedure. I hope all goes well for you. I will get my results next Monday. If it is indeed back, it will be my 4th go around with cancer. Breast cancer in 1998 with lumpectomy, radiation and chemo. Then uterine and fallopian cancers in 2003 (both were determined to be primary cancers and not mets - therefore stage 1). I had hysterectomy and chemo - bald again - for these cancers. I do not know if current - potential - cancer is a new primary or recurrence. If it is a new - that would make it my 4th primary cancer in 18 years. My mind is spinning as I am also a diabetic and thus very slow healing and prone to infections so I am trying to decide on surgery - one or both breasts - then what about reconstruction. Can I stand to go flat on both sides? Am I even capable of healing from massive surgery if both breasts are removed and reconstruction begun? Lots to think about. I hope I have alleviated any concerns about the MRI biopsy. The only difference in my first MRI and this one was they held my target breast pressed in a screen yesterday that the doctor used to guide him to the correct area for taking cells to biopsy. He removed 9 tiny sections for testing. I only know that because I counted as his machine made a small vacuuming sound 9 times. Then the nurse held pressure on my breast for a while and then wrapped me in a pressure bandage for 30 minutes. I went home with steri strips and instructions to take it easy for a few days and use ice packs. Very mild discomfort night of procedure but nothing Tylenol couldn't cover. I hope all goes well for you. My good wishes go out to you...

You are such a fighter!
I talked to my Dr yesterday, and we made up the agreement to do MX, so she said no need to do the biopsy because after MX, all the area will be examed anyway.
I asked what are those new found in MRI, she said could be anything, she will bet on DCIS considering I already have a DCIS which is not far away from those two areas. But we will get for sure answer after MX in the PATH report.
So, I guess I will just have to follow what God said, do not worry the thing that will happen tomorrow. Keep the faith in our mind that we are going to be fine!
