Wait til I show my daughter. She'll go nuts. Then I'll have to get my son to get the pics up here...what's the easiest way to do it? Can someone pm me on this?

Can't believe how many good looking cats we have! CT...how big is Scooter? Mancoons are really large cats aren't they? Don't think I've ever seen one.

Oh wow - I haven't checked this thread in a while, but I'm glad I did today! So many gorgeous kitties.

Mags - what a beautiful "family" - Bunting reminds me of Sybil, with that spot on the face

Ravdeb - I love the dog and cat sharing a bed! My cats sometimes make "incidental" contact with my mom and dad's dogs when they are jockeying for position in a key spot to nap.

Jezza - I can't believe your Siamese wears the suit all day! Hysterical!!

Bayyore - Coco and Suka look so sweet.

This is my sweet little girl of 18 years, Sissy, during the last month of her life. She died of chronic renal failure on 9/29/06, right before I was diagnosed with BC. During the last two months of her life, she was loved, nursed, and pampered, and when I got sad about how she was she would try to cheer me up with a smile, like she's doing here. A few minutes later she fell asleep.

    Hello:

Your kitty is just so beautiful
I am so sorry you had to let her
    go
I know the feeling, as mine had to
leave me at my lst chemo

    I'll share with you.. that
I thought there was a chance of me
going to Buffalo for rads (six yrs
    ago they were doing that)

Well, I was not going to leave
    my kitty dying

My dear vet sent a letter to my surgeon
saying he felt we should not be separated..
    or similar, wording was appropriate

needless to say, the surgeon thought I was
nuts..when he saw me again, he said
Oh, you are the one that.... I sort of laughed and
    said Yes, I'm the one

I did not end up going to Buffalo
but was not going to leave my cat dying
she was taken before my rads
    kidney disease

    Animals speak to us
    and they are very special

    Best wishes & tks again
    for your picture

    Sierra,

Thank you for your note. Sissy was very, very special. She seemed to understand us, sometimes better than we understood ourselves. When I got frustrated or angry about something, she would come up to me and beg to be held, as if to say, let's have a little visit now, I need to calm you down. And sure enough, she would.

She talked a lot and had quite a wide vocabulary, and sometimes would speak so expressively in whole paragraphs. She understood quite a lot of English and surprised us by the way she responded to things we said.

She is buried in a pretty little white-satin lined casket I made for her out in the back yard with her necklace on (she would never wear a collar, but would purr whenever I put her necklace on).

I am glad your cat was such a comfort to you. They understand us and I think they are enormously more intelligent than people realize.

    Sierra,

I didn't see Shauna's picture when I wrote you last because I was so far at the end of the thread. What a beautiful cat she was! And it was really neat how you got the depth in her eyes in that picture.

She looks very gentle and sweeet to me; I think white cats can be very gentle. They are good listeners too.

You must miss her very much!

    Morning Linda:

How are ya today.. Guess we are on at the same time

thanks for sharing that, I loved her dearly
and have always been taken with white cats
had 3 and this time, just had to break the pattern
so, as you see got this feisty one
Sonnie was special, they are all different

I can well see yours being a little angel and how you
    would miss her so
Her little face is just adorable with the pearls
I can just imagine the little casket you made
When I took Shauna (Sonnie) wrapped her in a beautiful
white dress. So, you can see how I could not
leave my kitty. She had pulled me through surgery, wee
    rascal

You have a good day out there and keep in touch
    PM, any time. Be safe.

    Hugs

OK cat lovers extraordinaire...I have an important question...I've never had cats before...so here goes....

My Sophie and Scout run to the kitchen every single time I do. They get in their "eating places"...Sophie sits on a bench and Scout stays on the floor. They are actually trained to "sit" before they are fed...

Anyway...is it unusual for cats to want to eat all the time? I mean, they are only just over a year old and they are big...Do cats stop eating when they are full? Or will they just keep eating if I keep feeding them?

I feel like a fool bringing these questions to my vet...

They are big, indoor cats (still have their claws...I cut them myself..oh, isn't that fun...)...but this eating thing is getting out of control...they literally come zipping from one end of the house to the other when they hear me in the kitchen. Is this normal?

Btw, I give them wet food in the morning and leave dry food and water out all day...so it's not like they don't have anything...let me know what you think...thanks..Mena...xo

Sounds to me like Sophe and Scout are bored. Cats will overreat just like people if they get bored and don't have anything else to do. Also, the wet food once a day makes feeding time especially exciting and they probably look forward to it all the time.

I would suggest you slowly wean them off wet food, and if they have a weight problem (if you have trouble feeling their ribs) get them on a diet. Science diet light dry food is an excellent substitute.

Try and find ways to deal with the boredom. Maybe a bird feeder in the window. Cat videos are fun. Be sure there are plenty of play things...the small mice in grocery stores are always a hit, and you can teach some cats will retrieve.

My kitties think it's fascinating when I do exercises on the floor and sometimes try to imitate what I'm doing (it's a game!).

    Good luck!

oh, my, my kitty is near 4 yrs old
    and drives me nuts
    always at the food bowl
she is l8 lbs. and has to lose weight
    not an easy task
    i tell you

    constantly meowing
i almost have to wear ear plugs
    im not kidding

    nothing i can do
    ive cut back her food
and she has to have these portions
    says the vet
    she gets no treats

    way too big

good luck.. they do love to eat
    especially if they are indoors

Ok...it's always the Mother's fault...I have gotten them the little mice...dozens of them...they get lost under furniture so fast...

And birdfeeders? Heck, I used to spend hours watching them...until we had bears in our yard and had to take the feeders down...well, the bears literally tore them out of the ground and mangled the suet feeders as well...

I do open the blinds and crack the windows open so they can look out the windows and smell the outdoors...

I guess I could lose a few pounds, too...that exercise idea sounds like a great one...I've noticed Scout actually watches TV...I wonder what she'll think of Richard Simmons hahahhaha...

Oh, btw, they hate Science Diet. Do you think it's a good idea to just start putting that out as their wet food to wean them off? I'd feel like I was torturing my babies...

And you should see me walking them on their leashes...very...how do I say...assinine?...I just want them to have a taste of the outdoors without getting hurt, but clearly they don't like the leashes. Scout just sits and Sophie tries to wriggle her way out of her collar...

Thanks for the advice...I promise I will exercise, if only for my cats...Mena...xo

I'm surprised they won't eat Science Diet, I never had a cat that didn't like it. I suggest you start serving them smaller and smaller portions of wet food and gradually phase it out.

You might try tuna water on the dry food as a kind of transitional food...then you can go completely to the dry food and dispense with meal times altogether.

Cats always hate leashes at first, but they can get used to them. That's the only way we took our cats out when we lived in the city. Make sure you're using halters not collars, the best kind are the kind that cross and adjust over the shoulders. Get them used to wearing the halters inside, then add the leashes...let them drag the leashes around until they're used to them to. Then take them outside, one cat at a time (or one person to one cat).

There are some great cat videos around. My cats love 'em!

    Hello Mena,

Cat videos are full of birds, squirrels, rodents, mice, etc. You can get them at http://www.cattoys.com/catvideosdvds.html.

My cats love 'em. You have to make sure the TV is in a safe place because they'll try to get behind it to get to the birds. I have a piece of cat furniture I put right in front of the TV. Now, whenever I get a video out, the cats get all excited because they think they're gonna get to watch their favorite show.

    Beth,

She's adorable! I've never seen a calico with gray tones. Very beautiful!

    What's her name?

Her name is Shade. She climbs right up on my shoulder whenver I am at the computer and falls alseep there. DH woke her up trying to take pics. She is the one I posted who crawled inside the bag to sleep. Recognize what is on the computer screen? Our previous Calico had markings more similar to the one in your avatar.

Bootsie, our black and white shorthair, senses the camera and runs! I have to find the pic we got of her from Christmas. It is lost in cyberspace on my computer!

I used to have a Siamese that would jump on my shoulders and go to sleep. He also wasn't shy around strangers and once scared the living daylights out of my mother when he decided to jump on her (or in Mom's words, "attack" her!).

I don't see anything but a document on the computer screen - was it cropped from the first photo maybe?
