Do Side Effects/Night Sweats Cease after Examestane Therapy

I have seven long months left on my course of Aromisin/Examestane. I have done fairly well on Aromisin compared to Arimidex. I have successfully, for the most part, not gained weight though it's a daily battle. I still don't sleep well and I still get hot flashes and especially night sweats, my hands hurt lately and I have hip pain which has been diagnosed as an overuse injury though who knows.

I took a number of med vacations so my onc added the months to the end. On May 1, 2017 I'm finished with this crap. For those who have finished their AI therapy do the side effects go away? I read somewhere that Aromisin permanently turns off the production of estrogen/aromatase. Does that mean that I won't start making estrogen again dooming me to the side effects for the rest of my life? I'm only 60 and lead a very active life and would like to feel and sleep better after AIs. I'd also like to stop having to work out like a maniac to avoid weight gain. I'm getting tired and there are the overuse injuries from working out. Sigh. Can't win.

Thanks so much!

Nancy

PS I memory is gone also, so I can't remember all my diagnoses. I remember stage one Invasive ductal carcinoma, no lymph involvement, right mastectomy (can't forget that LOL)

FWIW - I've found that 300 mg of L-Theanine, along with my nightly melatonin, have really helped my sleep. I take them about an hour before I turn out the light. For the first time in a LONG time I 'm sleeping through the night, and it feels wonderful.

These were recommended by my 'survivorship' nurse and cleared of any interactions w/ AIs. Neither is expensive and both are readily available on Amzn as well as pharmacy sections, etc.

Thanks so much for your response. You've cleared up my misunderstanding about how Aromasin works. I'm looking forward to finishing up next spring and having the SEs abate a little.

I'm just going to hang in there, though I'm going to post a new question because I think I have new symptoms.

Thanks! I go to a wonderful naturopath and we have tried just about everything for sleep. I take 30mg (you read that right, 30mg) of melatonin and 1000 mg of L-Trytophane. The L-Theanine didn't seem to work but this combination helps me sleep a little better. Not freat and I rarely sleep through, I still wake up about every two hours. Hoping it gets better when I'm off the AI.
