Comfy Bra After Mastectomy?

Options

I had a bilateral mastectomy and opted to wait on expanders. Hoping to give radiation a better chance to do it's job...I have two beautiful bras, but they hurt near my arm pit. The bra causes redness and sore spots. So I've been going flat now since March. But I'm beginning to feel a little self conscious. So I want to find a comfortable bra.

Wondering if anyone can recommend a comfy bra? I have lightweight foam prosthesis.

It's tough. After I developed a little LE right in front of my armpit, it bacame a royal pain, seemed like every single bra, tank, or cami that I tried, cut right across that swollen tender spot. It took a lot of trying to find something that didn't. A few sports bras fit all right, the Genie bra is not bad (but get 2-3 sizes bigger than the chart says you should), and the "Cami Shaper" fits pretty well if you want some light compression.

I've seen many recommendations here for camisoles rather than bras, and with cooler weather coming that might be a good option. The mastectomy ones are awfully pricey, but sometimes you can find regular ones that have removable foam pads, and the pockets are usually big enough for foobs.

I have been wearing bras by Yummie. The Audrey day bra is soft with very light support. Plus the fabric has been designed to stay cool.

    Michelle,

I have tried a lot of Coobies. Coobies in the regular 'one size fit all', Coobies in medium size, Coobies in large, a couple of Coobies in their plus size. Coobies come with their own slight "padding" or you can slip your own form in the pocket. Also, one Fruit of the Loom sports bra.

I've decided that my new size is 36 A and my best fit is high under the arm.

What is your band & cup size? and where in your armpit is your best fit - high or low? I'll check my inventory and send you a free bra or two if you'd like. My "rejects" have only been worn once. I've been meaning to post here to pass some of them along.

Only I could end up with twice as many bras post BMX than when I had boobs ;-)

I wear full-size Coobie bras if I wear anything at all and they have been very comfortable. I have a Knitted Knocker that I just shove in one side when I want to be a little less lopsided.

I use yoga tops. Most of them have pockets, where you can stick the prostheses. If not, just look for some with double fabric in front, stitch down the middle and cut slits near the armholes for adding foam jobs

Thank you for the replies. I've never heard of Coobie. I was a 36b before I lost my breast. I bought two bras by Jodee style 817. For some reason they hurt the fatty area I've accumulated by my armpit, towards the front of the armpit. Sorry of hard to explain without being able to post a picture.
