Did you have to switch antidepressant?

Options

Hi, I have been taking tamoxifen for 2 or 3 weeks now. My prescribing oncologist at the time (I have a new one now) neglected to see that I was on Wellbutrin (bupropion). After doing my own research I came across many articles that said you should not take Wellbutrin while on tamoxifen. Great!! New onc says I can try to switch to Effexor and see how that works. Or I can do ovary suppression and an AI I think it was. That didn't sound too appealing. I know there is a new study that says now we think it's ok to take Wellbutrin, Prozac, etc. But I'm not buying into that yet. And FYI, I am 49 years old, think I'm perimenopausal.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I have used Drugs.com to check for interactions like you mention. I took Cymbalta for a short time when I was also on Tamox. That was listed as having "moderate" interaction. I stopped the Cymbalta because I didn't feel comfortable after reading that. Supposedly Effexor is better (less interaction) however it does use the same liver enzyme for metabolism that Tamoxifen does. I don't have advice to offer, but good job doing your own homework because some doctors do not seem all that concerned when prescribing multiple medicines. Is it because they "know better" and have had no past problems combining certain drugs? Maybe. Is it because it's not their body or their liver? Maybe that too. Their idea of risk vs. benefit may be different than yours is.
