My MRI is tonight (8:45pm!) I was wondering what to expect. Obviously the techs can't tell me anything. But say they happen to find something, will I get a report with another BiRads score? Is it possible they can confirm a cancer diagnosis just by looking at the images? I assume my doctor will get the information and give me a call.

Also, should I remove all make up? I also have shellac nails on because I was in a wedding. Do those need to come off? I guess I could call the hospital and get this information but I like this group of women more. Thanks so much ladies! I'm crazy freaking out right now.

They will send the results to your doctor who will then report back to you. No, you can leave your makeup and nails on.

KCabrera, please keep us posted on the MRI results; the turn around here in my area of NY is 24 to 48 hours for bx; u/s & MRI results.

You're in my thoughts and I hope the procedure was easy on you.

PS: I asked every u/s tech and the radiologist for their "preliminary views" - making a joke of it and all - they wouldn't give an inch (they can't - they could lose their jobs but they are always asked by most patients).

I had a MRI last week. I spoke with radiologist after MRI. The area of concerned was viewed and nothing new was found. The results of MRI went to my Dr. next day. I was contacted by Dr. with results that evening. I did not wear any jewelry and wore a skirt with an elastic waistband that I was able to keep on. I was anxious and scared of having the MRI but it was much easier than I thought! Wishing you good luck with your MRI tonight.

I never had a MRI but as a nurse, I know they will insert a peripheral IV access, and they will give you a salt-based contrast that feels weird according to some patients. They say it feels cold but not painful to the veins. Im sure you have seen what a MRI machine looks like. If youre claustrophobic, I suggest take in an anti anxiety medication 30 mins before exam. But if youre not claustrophobic, you should be good. I work in a university medical center, all diagnostic mammo, US, MRI results are provided right after the exam. My friend just had one, she received results a few mins after and then she was biopsied 2 hrs after, received biopsy results after 48hrs. It was benign. I will have MRI 3 weeks from now. Goodluck and we are all hoping for favorable results!

    jenjenl -

My experience with diagnostic radiology (ultrasound or MRI) is that when you have it done at a breast center, they have a doctor talk to you immediately.

The one I had done at a distant facility was after I already had a diagnosis - so they were just gathering additional information for a treatment plan.

I start what I hope will be a very short second journey tomorrow, since I'm not emotionally recovered from the first yet.

    Best of luck

I went to a breast center for my MRI and didn't get results until I met with the surgeon a week or more later.

At the same breast center I do meet with the radiologist following a DIAGNOSTIC mammogram, or during an ultrasound immediately.
