Waiting and waiting for some results from Monday's core biopsy. Have to admit I'm a bit worried.

Can you please tell me, how much information have you gotten from core biopsies? Do they test receptors with it or do you need excisional bx for that?

Back to waiting...

Hi Francine, I am sorry you have to wait for the results. In my experience, a four day wait is actually a good sign. I got a phone call from my PCP with the bad news about BC less than 24 hours after my biopsy. If I am not mistaken, some hospitals in our state have some kind of "express" notification for preliminary results that indicate cancer. In my family, there were two such cases over the last dozen years and in both calls came in within 24 hours after biopsies.

Core biopsies give a lot of information. I had a stereotactic core biopsy and the results had receptors status included (those take a bit longer to receive though.)

Good luck and I hope your results will be benign!

I'm on day 2 of waiting.

I called my office left a message for the nurse to call me back before office closes.

That way I can have her look it up and see if there is anything. Even if it's not completed yet maybe they can tell me something. It will suck to wait till Monday

Praying that no news is good news - around here fast results are usually the hard to swallow ones. I was given a specific time to call on Monday with a warning that it may take until Tuesday morning but most likely Monday at 3 pm the I am to call the radiologist who was a very nice gentleman who also gave me his number if I had any questions - glad I switched clinics!

    Hanging in there with you.

I am newly diagnosed with invasive lobular carcinoma. My core biopsies were Thursday 9/29 and I got my

results late the next day. I do know how you feel, but if it is taking this long, they may be doing all of the

staging tests and special stains required to make an accurate diagnosis and give your surgeon (if you indeed

one) all of the necessary information to proceed with your treatment plan, including your surgery. All I know from

mine right now is that it is positive for carcinoma. If you do not hear something by Monday,I would pester the dickens

out of your doctor or radiologist.....the squeaky wheel gets the oil! And I am here for you, I'm a nurse and it's differrent

when you are the patient....I will gladly wait with you.

Dear Tatatootsie, thanks for you response on this thread. When you say "stains", can you elaborate or is there a board where I can easily find out information about what happens during the reading of a biopsy, i.e. how do they come to the stage, etc. I have only had an u/s needle core bx; not a surgical excision. Someone else mentioned stains (a friend in real life - for herself) and we both had no clue what it means. Thanks if you read this.

I am sorry that your's came back ++ for BC. Please keep us posted on your treatment plan, full dx, etc. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

IF there are atypical cells found they are stained in a test to check for presence of e-cadherin, which determines if the cells are ductal or lobular. Receptors means whether the cells have receptors for estrogen and progesterone.

    Benign.

    It took an entire week.

There are still parts of the report I don't understand (what is "columnar cell change"?) but I'm told it's definitely benign and no treatment is needed now. Have to go back for a dreaded MRI in 6 mos.

I am very thankful. Yet not overjoyed. I just *know* the bad news will come some day (6 family members with Breast ca) and I was actually getting geared up to deal with it. I also stopped HRT cold turkey and I am miserable.

Thank you all for being out there. This is an awesome site.

Francine, with that many family members with BC (how close of relatives are they to you? Sisters? Mothers? Aunts? Grandmothers? Sisters and mother are more concerning than aunt and grandmother) perhaps sometime you should sit with a genetic counselor and talk about some genetic testing?

    Just a thought...and YAY for B9!!! :)

My dr had me take the braca gentic type test, even tho my aunts already took it. Its odd both of my aunts on dads side had bc one at 45, one 52

Then my dad had prostate cancer at 55.

But im 27 and 3rd girl down in out family for bc so he told me we can check and if we want genetic councling we can.

(1 aunt test came inclunclusuve, 1 neg)

I know they usally look at moms family so it was unexpecte

JXMom, they don't usually just look at mom's side. You get half your genes from each parent so you are just as likely to inherit a genetic cancer syndrome, even breast cancer, from your dad as your mom
