Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day October 2016
I saw a sign for this at my hospital today. There are events throughout Canada and in some cities around the world. There's a link for US events, but I didn't see immediately where. I've registered for one in Montreal.

That is so cool! Wish there was an event in my area.
-
It's surprising that there aren't events listed in the US. Wonder why? There are 4 events in Montreal alone.
-
BRA Day was started in Canada in 2011 by Mitch Brown, a Toronto PS. I have read on bco that some US PSs hold events throughout the year in their offices. In Canada, the majority of the events are on the third Wed in October, with some variation of dates, likely due to scheduling availability of local PSs. A few Canadian cities hold their event in April.
Here's some info on reconstruction events in the US.
-
downdog - Thank you! I won't be ready for reconstruction until next year, so I'll look again for April events.
SanFranKitty - Looks like there's at least one event in San Francisco. Check out the link from downdog.

SerenitySTAT, definitely attend the Oct Montreal event if you can. The April events are usually in smaller locales and will be listed on the bra-day.com site (too early for 2017 right now). Willow used to run these and they merged with CBCF in March 2016, so there will be more events in the future as a branded CBCF initiative. I don't know details about the Montreal events, but the Toronto flagship will have a dozen PSs, PS residents and a couple of BSs. It's a great opportunity to speak with different PSs, since we can't shop around with our medical system to the same extent as those in the US can. Meet and speak with the PSs and you can request referrals to a couple you like for your recon. You can also chat with the women in the show & tell lounge about their experiences and see firsthand the different types of recon. Hopefully, they will have a couple of show-ers who had recon post-rads for you.

Ahh I see it. Wasn't there when I checked the first time. Maybe I will go. Wish it wasn't at a plastic surgeons office.
-
downdog - Yes, I'll definitely go this month!
SanFranKitty - The one I picked is at a spa! They're offering mini spa treatments. My other choices were hospitals and a sports complex. Even though my hospital is hosting an event, the sign I saw when visiting my doctor there was for the spa event. ???
