I'm scheduled for exchange surgery on Oct. 26. It will be a year since that fateful mammogram that put me on this journey! I had a left-sided MX on Jan. 13, then had my nipple-aureola complex removed in a second surgery due to close margins, and a second prophylactic MX of the right side in May. Through all of this, the anxiety was much worse than the surgery itself!

Hi friends! I am presently scheduled for surgery on Oct. 6th, just two days from now. I am ER+/PR+, however, my HER2 came back equivocal and was sent for FISH test about 2 weeks ago. I may have to have chemo/herceptin first if it comes back positive and surgery will be delayed. Needless to say, I'm beginning to get really stressed. I work full time and need to tell my employer something one way or the other. I was diagnosed with a new primary cancer, 19 years out from the date of my original diagnosis in 1997, in same breast and same spot as original tumor. I am going for double MX this time around (I'm 63) and hoping for a quick recovery. Not opting for reconstruction.

I'll join you ladies. I had my BMX in June. I'm going in for my implant exchange surgery this Friday Oct. 7. My advice for those of you just beginning this journey is to believe that you will make it. The first 6 weeks will challenge you the most. It WILL get better. Good luck ladies!

Good morning everyone.  I had my lumpectomy with wire guidance and the SNB yesterday.  I am glad to say that I got through the day and that I feel surprisingly well today.  Thanks for all of the prayers - I think that is why I am not feeling too shabby.  The surgery ended up being about an hour longer than expected.  I guess my sentinel nodes were a lot deeper than usual and the surgeon also found a few odd lymph nodes along the way, so she took those out too.  So far, they test negative, but will get the definitive report next week.  In case anyone was wondering about my name "joyandpiece" it is a play on words for my favorite hobby of quilting.  Maybe, just maybe, I'll head to the sewing room and sew a little today if I am feeling up to it.  Other than that, just planning on sitting around in my jammies eating bonbons today.   I am keeping the rest of you in my prayers.  The month isn't over yet.  Special thoughts and prayers for you today Ruthi for your surgery!

Glad you are feeling so well and everything went so well joyandpiece! Fingers crossed for a good path report.

Got a call from my surgeon's office. They haven't gotten the results from my MRI yet, but the surgeon took a look online at the pictures herself, and everything looks good, no other lumps other than the one we know if, and it looks like it had good margins, etc. I'm all good to go on Friday. 2 more sleeps!

I am having a bilateral mastectomy October 10, with a port placed.. Start chemo on the 26th. Mine started with a sore on my nipple. Punch biopsy revealed Paget's . Then 2 corresponding tumors with ICD grade 3.. October is a month I used to love , but am rethinking that .

We will almost be surgery twins jnjones, good luck to you. Maybe October will mean other things to you someday and you'l love it again. I dont like that all the pink tober is happening now but am thankful to have surgery during cooler weather.

Joyandpiece - another quilter yeah! I'm trying to get a couple things ready to slowly work on during my recovery. Its inspiring to see how well you are doing especially after lymph node surgery, that was tough for me last time.

Hoping a good evening to my fellow October surgery ladies.

    Its been a busy week.

joyandpiece, here's hoping you get to some quilting

Ruthi, & 123abc1611 The first few days post Mx I was not even awake. Let us know how you are when you are ready. When you do wake and deal with the drains, know they do come out eventually!

Leslie 2016, Jean! and SPECTRE55: hoping you are all out of surgery and resting comfortably in a bed, wether home or hospital.

And for everyone, hoping no one is in Matthew's path!

    Be safe,

I'm home and feeling pretty good. Was home by about 3:00 yesterday. Under my arm is a little tender today but that's more from it rubbing I think than anything else. They did give me a little pillow that a volunteer sewed up and it fits perfectly under my arm to help so it can't rub. No real pain.

Before I went in the surgeon said that the MRI didn't show anything else other than what we knew; the one lump, it looks like it's margins are pretty defined so that was good, no obvious spread to the nodes or anything. My mom missed the doctor after my surgery so I don't know for sure but I think she took 2-3 nodes out to check. Papers say to see her again in 3 weeks, so I should have all my answers then.

It's Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada, so I have 3 days to just sit and veg and heal. I'm reading, texting, playing on the computer and watching bad tv. I'm good.

my surgery is Oct 20 and need your support to tell me what to take to the hospital and how do I get positive thoughts in my head. I have high anxiety and control issues. I just want to cancel at this point.

I can't figure out why I am so afraid I trust my surgeon but I hate being put under

I feel frozen just sit and hoping this anxiety will stop. Where is my guardian angel

My was caught early stage one plans are lumpectomy and radiation.

Just had my surgery yesterday. A couple of things..

    Slippers/housecoat

A shirt/sweat jacket that you can zip up the front to come home in so you don't have to worry about pulling things over

A soft no wire sports bra (I came home with no bra on, but my directions are to wear a soft bra 24/7 for support for a while...I just didn't have one with me at the hospital)

I don't know if your hospital will have them, but I got a little pillow that a volunteer had made...about the size of a paperback..to slip under my arm so it can't rub..I've fallen in love with it today. Nice and soft.

Just had a Rt Mx and lymph node dissection on October 5. Today, I feel better than yesterday!

The worst part for me has been being not able to sleep on my right side.

Thanks for those of you sharing your stories....makes me feel less alone
