Congratulations Maryann! It is a wonderful feeling to be finished!
-
Comgratulations Mary Ann on being finished...being able to close any chapter of this journey is quite an accomplishment.

Yay Maryann

valstim, how are you doing
-
13 weeks and one day PFC and I think the shedding has stopped! No strands come off when running fingers through hair! Next hair wash will tell.
-
HI Kechla, getting there. Slower than normal. Went to dinner with dh and dd and her hubby for my 37th wedding anniversary. They talked me into going without my wig. Took pics, and was upset. Got to get used to short hair. Have had long hair all of my life, then I thought, good grief, just finished cancer treatment, had a stoke, still in rehab and I'm worried about sparse hair? Then we all laughed.
So I'm getting alone, but very slow. lots of issues with mobility. Therapy helps but it's slow. Thanks so much for asking. I read, but sometimes can't get my thoughts to work with my fingers.

valstim, I'm sure you are beautiful with short hair! I'm so glad things are progressing for you. Take your time and take good car of yourself! I'm about half done with my chemo now. 2 rounds to go. Tge end is in sight!!

Hi all
Checking in, keeping thread going i hope.Having trouble after mild stroke. Tastebuds have disappeared, but healed fast and quick (didn't seem like it at the time) from really bad rad burns.
I guess all the long term side effects are showing up. My cancer center as a survivorship class for when you are done with chemo, rads etc, it was very helpful.
I guess I want to be back to as I was a year ago and that is not happening. So I have to learn to deal with the lack of energy, fatigue, aches and pains after doing what I consider normal things. Yes I work out, and almost stumble to my couch afterwards. I am thinking less and less about reccurence. Partially due to all the scans I've had that you would normally not get. So I'm grateful for the all clear. Just wish I felt better. Thanks for letting me vent.
-
Valstim- I am so sorry you are going thru all of this...I said an extra prayer for you after I read your post💕 Please feel free to vent all you like...recovering after a stroke is a long process, my mom had a stroke 5 years ago and her recovery took some time. Please hang in there and keep in touch about your progress

hey is this thread still active? how is everyone?

Hi Val. I still get notifications when people post, but haven't seen any lately. I am now done with Chemo (Yay!!). Had my last one 3 weeks ago. I'm still pretty tired, but hoping that my energy will start to come back soon.
I had an appointment with my RO today. Acyutally, my RO is no longer with the practice, so I had a new RO today. She was less than stellar. I'm so glad to have had my old RO through my treatment. Today, I let her know that I have some swelling in my breast and side and she said, yep, that looks like it might be lymphedema. Eat a low salt diet and keep active. That was it. I also mentioned my arm/shoulder ached and she was very quick to say, yep, that's the chemo, neuropathy. Strange, because it didn't start until the swelling started. She was very short on words and seemed in a rush to get out of the room. She also said I didn't need to come back anymore, which also surprised me, bc the other RO had told me I would be seen for years. But... that may be because my diagnosis changed. I wasn't originally going to need chemo.
I was literally in the room with her for about 4 minutes. I don't know what I was expecting, but after all I've been through, I would think at least a little bit of information maybe on what I should expect going forward or what I should expect with this swelling I'm having.
Val, I hope you are recovering well and feeling much better. Do they think the stroke was caused by your treatments? Do you have big plans for Thanksgiving?
-
I'm still around and back at work. Up to 6 hours a day now for 3 weeks and then I'll be back to full time. I find my back gets really sore, standing on concrete with a light mat under our feet is tough. Guess I forgot how tough!
How are you doing now Val? I think about all you have been through often! As if this cancer wasn't enough!
Kechla, what an awful way to treat you. My radiaologist was the least compassionate and friendly of them all. I don't see him anymore but still see my MO for 5 or 10 years -can't remember. Right now I see him every 3 months because of my Herceptin. I also stillsee my breast surgeon. I just had my first clean mammo a few weeks ago. I will see him every 6 months for 5 years. Those I am happy with. I feel the rads left me with the most long term issues tho!
Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends this week! Wishing you much peace and happiness, so much to be thankful for

Yay Kechla done with chemo. How awful to be treated this way by a medical professional.
Hey Karen. I'm doing well considering. Still in therapy but so happy to not be at the cancer center every day or every week for appointments. Thinking about cancer less and less. Trying to build up my stamina, seems I nap more than I'd like, but definitely getting there. So glad to hear from you and Kechla. You have really been a life saver for me. During my horrible burns, then my stroke. Thanks so much

It has been 3 months since my last RAD treatment. In the last 3 weeks I've actually had a lot of discomfort in my breast and my armpit is a bit numb. Anyone have issues pop up after?
-
ej, I'm a little over : months too andjust in the last 3 weeks I've developed swelling in my breast, side, armpit areas. My arm aches and my mobility of my shoulder is decreased. Trying to keep it stretched out so I don't end up w a frozen shoulder. It is pretty mild so far. Dr said to keep up w activity and it may resolve itself. Keeping fingers crossed.
-
I have had issues too but I have been going to physical therapy and doing lots of shoulder exercises. Breast and armpit still quite sore as well as some cording symptoms have come back. I did read somewhere that it can take over a year for your body to heal from radiation. I am still tired from it, but slowly getting back to normal. Yeesh!
Valstim, thanks for the update. I have been thinking of you lately. Glad you are recovering albeit slow.
Hope everyone had a very thankful thanksgiving! What a year we all had huh?!
