Reoccurrence of breast cancer in lung
In late July I had blood in my urine and my primary thought I might have kidney stones so he ordered a cat scan of my abdomen - no stones just very bad UTI. The scan did show a nodule in my right lung, so he ordered a chest X-ray followed by another cat scan of my chest. This showed two nodules in my right lung. Got referred to my oncologist and thoracic surgeon, had biopsy and results show reoccurrence of breast cancer in my right lung. (2009 IDC stage 1, grade 3, lumpectomy, IORT and chemo) Had a pet scan which showed only the lung spot and a couple of lightly lit up lymph nodes in my left shoulder and some in my lungs. So this Thursday I will be having surgery to remove the nodule, hopefully get clear margins and not sure what else. This has thrown my world upside down. I can't see past this and am worry for my family. I'm a single mother of two children one in college, a senior in high school, a grandson and another grandchild due in December. My one sister has told everyone that I'm terminal which really irritates me. Can someone offer some advice or what I might expect to happen next? Sorry this is so long but I need a little reassurance that it's not as hopeless as she has made me feel. Thanks so much

Uuuugh. I am sorry you are dealing with this. Breathe. First of all, tell your sister to pipe down. It is not her place to be telling anyone anything. Hopefully there is someone other than her you can bring to appointments and such. The next few weeks will probably bring more answers and a plan. Friends locally that have a single site of metastatsis have done well for years (and continue to), so tell yourself this is how you will do until proven otherwise. You had a long gap between your initial diagnosis and this one, which means that though the cancer is sneaky and went where it shouldn't, it took it's sweet time in doing so. That tends to bode very well. There are some very good threads on the stage IV forum, and I encourage you to go there, introduce yourself, and get more tips on what to expect. I'd also encourage you to seek multiple opinions.
Keep us posted on how you're doing. ((((HUGS)))) I hate this disease, and hate that it hit you in this way.

I am so sorry that you're going through this. I don't have experience with your situation but wanted to stop by and give support. I know others who have similar situations will be by soon to provide their input and guidance. wishing you the best.

Hi TerriJo,
First off, I want to slap your sister [figuratively.] Not her story. SHUT UP! And then, I want to offer you my heartfelt support. I have mets to several spots, but not my lungs. We first found those pesky tumors in 2010. Yes, 6 years ago!
Come over to the Metastatic Forum and join us. You will find people with your diagnosis who can help you navigate this scary world.
PM me if you think I can be of any help,
*susan*

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I do have two other sisters who can and will be there for me. One has a medical background so she knows what kinds of questions to ask. It's just the initial shock of it all that threw me for a loop. I know that I'm in one of the best medical hospital and have a wonderful oncologist. I just didn't want to be doing this again. So I'll get ready to fight for myself and see what happens next. I will be checking out the other forum soon. Thanks again

Welcome to BCO Prettymix26, I am so sorry you find yourself here at such a young age. There is a triple negative forum you might find helpful Triple Negative Forum and a mets to lung thread you might also find helpful. I will be praying for you!

Going through the same thing .... I knew that Triple Negative had a higher rate of metastasis, but I was feeling so much better I really thought I was doing okay until I had a CT/PET scan and I have two nodules ... one on each lung. Right now I don't know which I am more scared of the cancer or the treatment.
