frustrated and tired of waiting
so its been one month since I was diagnosed with Invasive ductal carcinoma, I am 25 years old the tumor is grade 3, and I am triple negative, while at my first US and mamo the dr told me it was just over 2 cm, I recently had an MRI (Friday) and yesterday the dr told me the tumor was now just over 4 cm and have several very "suspicious lymph nodes" , he told me different tests can show some difference in size.....has anyone been told that different tests can have THAT big of a difference as far as size goes, I know I can feel it getting bigger..... I'm getting beyond frustrated because my oncologist wanted surgery originally, and surgeon wants chemo for a lumpectomy, now im being sent back to the oncol dr, its been a month and I have no treatment plan, this is my second time having cancer( age 15 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma) and everything moved very quickly, the more time passes the more anxiety and irritable I'm getting, I don't know what to do?! (sorry for the long post)

I'm so sorry that you're going through this. It's seems strange that you haven't had any treatment plans set in place yet. I don't know if this is normal or not as I am not yet done having tests done to see if I have BC. Can you feel the lymph nodes they are talking about? I will be praying for you.

Sourlemon, I had a similar experience. The ultrasound report said 2.1 cm. The MRI two weeks or so later said 9 cm. I WIGGED OUT. Then I had chemo. Then I had surgery. Guess what? That original mass was 2.1 cm. (The chemo had mostly destroyed it, but the surgeon could tell where it had been.) MRIs are famous for "enhancements" that make things seem bigger than they are.
My MO also told me that research shows that between official diagnosis and first treatment (whether surgery or chemo or whatever), the prognosis will not be affected unless more than 90 days pass. I was BOSSING that man around to get my chemo going while I was waiting for all the paperwork to be processed, and that's when he busted out the studies.
I hope this helps reassure you a little that you're doing a good job of getting all the info you need to see if you should have chemo first or surgery first and that you're not affecting your outcome. The waiting is so terrible, though.
Sending you peace,
Kelli

kcabrera- i cant feel a lump or anything as far as lymph nodes go its just swollen under my armpit area, and showed up on the mri and the dr says they are suspicious, and thank you for the prayers, I appreciate it! I hope everything turns out ok for you, sending love!
Kelli- that is crazy that it can show that big off a difference? that does give me some relief!, I also talked to the oncologist earlier today and she told me it was about 3.5 cm which is what she saw before (except she relayed slightly different info previously) anyway thank you for sharing your experience it definitely helped my nerves and hopefully by the end of the week I will have a treatment plan! hoping all is well!
