I have had a New York trip planned since April. I had originally thought I would be done with surgery and radiation by the time I was taking the trip (in October). I will have done #25 of 33 at that point on Friday and then set to fly out the next day (Saturday) and return the following Tuesday. So, I would miss Monday and Tuesdays treatment. I am 10 treatments in and feel warm and am pink -ish. Is this a realistic trip?

    Probably a question you should ask your RO, but in my case when I had to make a short trip, they assured me it wasn't a problem. I had fairly bad peeling and such but travel didn't seem to make it any worse (or any better). However, note that in all likelihood you will NOT skip the two treatments. Rather, they will tack them on to the end, so your rads will last two days longer.

    Best of luck;

    Thanks Octogirl. I mentioned it to my RO's nurse practitioner and she said it shouldn't be a problem and they would add it to the end. I think I'm worried about not enjoying myself and the energy of being somewhere out of state exhausting me.

    Hi ayr, I would re-schedule the trip and move it at least 2-3 weeks after completion of the last rads. Physical condition aside I wouldn't be able to enjoy the trip. If you do it after completing the rads you will enjoy it much better.

    I talked with my radiation oncologist and was able to attend my Dad's retirement party - I missed two rads treatments like you did and was near the end of the cycle. She was totally fine with it. It was wonderful for me to go, and great for my family to see me on the other side of the cancer treatments. Mental health is important!
