The parade was our annual harvest festival parade. The harvest festival has become a popular community activity and the parade had I think something like 125 entries this year. My company's float is an old fashioned popcorn cart, really cute. We wear jeans with white button down shirts, red bow ties and white hats, handing out boxes of popcorn (assembled and filled by company personnel) from white boxes that have a black strap to go up around the neck (like a ballpark vendor). It's a huge hit every year and this year we gave away 2500 boxes of popcorn while walking about a mile parade route.
Six pounds in two weeks is great Wendi! so happy for you - keep it up!
Loved the video badger
Can't wait for San Antonio!!!!!
Did week 1, day 6 of c25k on this beautiful cool fall morning. Total 67 minutes mostly brisk walk with nine 2-minutes run segments (to the tune of 'Porn Star Dancing'
) Sounds pretty bad but it's got the perfect beat for me
Have a great weekend my sculpted sisters!

I am up early as haven't yet adjusted to the time difference from my NYC and Boston trip. Anyway, it was wonderful to do cultural things which we don't have a lot of in Seattle. I did The Cloisters in NYC and the Isabella Stewart Gardner in Boston. Plus a day in Concord MA where I revisited Walden Pond and then Longfellow's Wayside Inn. I channeled Daniel Webster at the Union Oyster House.
(I concluded that Thoreau was a bit of a fraud. What a friend of mine had to say: I hear you about
Thoreau. Although I much admire him, I believe he would walk the short
distance to town where his MOTHER did all his laundry, supplied him with food,
etc. Geesh, there's always a woman supporting these guys, giving them the
space to think big thoughts.)I also did walks and runs around the Reservoir in Central Park, Jamaica Pond where I stayed for 2 nights, and in the nature preserve in Wayland. It was fun sightseeing that way. People couldn't believe how fit I look these days. This includes the 30-somethings I talked to in the Union Oyster House.
Pleasantly surprised at how clean the Boston subway is after NYC which I would not describe that way. First time on Boltbus (nearly broke down en route from NYC to Boston, but CHEAP), Airbnb, and Uber.
Yesterday, I had a lovely sign on my office door welcoming me back. Not that I did a lot of work, but at least I caught up on things so can hit the ground running next week.
Lots to do as rejoining my former business partner, which means figuring out who to target, and what we should offer. Plus living in both the nonprofit and market research worlds. This means a new website, and rewriting/updating everything on our old website.
I was dismayed at how little is being invested in the NYC infrastructure outside the ultra-wealthy areas. This was so evident while waiting for Boltbus in the Hudson Docks area, formerly Hell's Kitchen. New subway station, luxury apartments going up. New and vibrant high end neighborhood, or will be soon. No investment at all in the area north of 120th St/Columbia University. I now get the anger directed at "The 1%". Because few get to participate in the "Hudson Docks" world.
Grocery shopping remains a contact sport in NYC. I didn't shop in Boston, but suspect not as generally more subdued. Loved all the cycle ways in Boston, although didn't get a chance to use them. You can commute via bicycle without taking your life in your hands.
I will do Airbnb again as THE way to travel and experience a locale. And I do need to spend more time traveling. It's been way too long. But right now, it's back to work and my life in Seattle. - Claire
-
Welcome home, Claire! Yes, my observation is behind all the 'great thinkers/artists' etc. there is somebody doing the REAL LIFE work (and getting none of the credit)!
Subbed yesterday (not very much fun as the teacher did not leave good lesson plans......crossing her off my list to say yes to) & did some abs when I got home. This morning, I did a pilate challenge (DVD) and walked in a 5K to raise money in the fight against Huntington's Disease. One of our Wednesday Walking Women lost her first husband and daughter to Huntington's; and now her son, (father of two small children) has been diagnosed. Beyond tragic. Anyway, it had been raining all night; but stopped in time for very pleasant walking/running conditions.
-
43 minutes of lawn mowing and then weeded the flower beds of some awful sticker weeds that I had been avoiding.
I love that video, Badger. I think its a great one. We should post that every few pages. Good motivation.
Congrats, Wendi on the six pounds and the consistent exercising. Good work!
-
Thanks for re-posting that video, badger. I love it more every time I see it!
-
Raining this morning so spent some time weeding through clothes. A shopping trip is in order, maybe 2moro.
Cleared up into a beautiful afternoon. 45-min walk in a light breeze - NICE. Logging 9.76 miles since last post.
-
Checking in. My Fitbits are not happy with me. Not enough steps the past few days. I did, however, chase butterflies yesterday. Dh says that when I get stressed I revert to such childish behavior. In my defense, there were lots of other adults with cameras chasing them as well.
Scottie
-
Scottie, gorgeous butterflies!
Early morning walk then a successful round of Shop & Sculpt at the mall this aft. Found two pairs of pants that sit at the waist in my size in a long length, a matching jacket and several nice tops all for $100.
Cheryl, I'm glad we don't have a dress barn nearby!
-
Chase butterflies any chance you get! Acting 'grown up' is highly overrated (IMO).
Did an hour of toning and am taking a day off from any type of aerobics. It's cool and windy here so I've been catching up on some paperwork and making lasagna.
Oreo doing some pilates with me yesterday.
-
Gorgeous butterflies Scottie, chase away it's good for the soul. Sounds like you got some good bargains Badger and great that you were able to get 'tall' maybe we can find a Dress Barn in San Antonio. Oh Ruth what I'd give for cool and windy, we have Santa Ana winds and it's been 100 degrees the last two days, ugh.
Had lunch today with the San Diego BCO ladies. Left home at 6.30am for the drive south as I went to a Body Combat class with a fabulous instructor down there for a class at 8.30am then just went to Starbucks in between finishing class and meeting up for lunch. Then the funniest thing happened, we were sitting at the table and Hannah's best friend came up and said hi, that was pretty unreal but she goes to school down there so okay but then she tells me she is meeting Hannah and her fiancee there for lunch, what are the chances, turns out Hannah and Goni had taken her young sister down to play soccer so it ended up a BCO/wedding party table.

Been reading everyone and very sorry for those who are sweltering. Just glorious here, and I was able to get in my last ride of the Season Pass...I think 9 altogether. This despite a groin pull and broken spoke! It was a very hilly 28 mile loop and involved a ferry ride. Spectacular scenery. (Spectacular hills too which I walked.)
I did a 25 mile ride on the flats yesterday, so feel I am on track with exercise. Now, just to do the same thing with work!
Bicycle goes to the shop tomorrow.
I will be riding for the rest of the fall, just not any more events. And then skiing this winter, or at least I hope so.
But what a way to end the official cycling season! - Claire
-
Gorgeous fall day in Denver, perfect weather. Today was the Denver Komen RFTC. First year that my younger daughter wasn't here for the race...so I wore her pink tutu! I sent her pictures and she said she missed not being here, and of course I missed her. First year no kids, just DH and me.
-
Aww......
-
Wendi - wow - very impressive! Claire - sounds like a great NYC trip. I think the lack of infrastructure spending is a pretty much a national issue - sad and dangerous. Beautful butterfiles, Scottie, and Ruth - love your pilates cat. Karen - you look fabulous next to that years 6-10 sign! I bet your DH loves seeing you strong and healthy.
Badger - thought of you this weekend. Some local boutique hotels here in DC were very embarrassed recently. It seems that they all used the same stock photo of the Capitol building on their website and marketing materials to highlight their proximity to DC landmarks. Unfortunately, the photos didn't show the actual US Capitol - instead they showed the Wisconsin State Capitol building in Madison. Lots of red faces when a local journalist pointed it out to them. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/local/wp/2016/...
DH and I celebrated our 34th anniversary this weekend - hard to believe it's been so long! Went out to a nice place for dinner Saturday, then went for a good run Sunday morning. Finally the fall weather seems to be here!
-
Nats - LOL! Thanks for sharing. It is a pretty capitol ...
Took a couple hours off this afternoon to meet a friend for lunch then walked around downtown Madison.
Great pic, Karen, you rock the tutu. :-)
-
Week 2, day 1 of c25k. 20 minutes run/walk with 10 minute warm-up and cool-downs. Nats - DH and I had our 34th in August - way to go!!
love to all!
-
Congratulations on your anniversary, Nats & you to sweet!
BUSY day!!! Picked up a garbage can full of twigs & branches, cleaned out the storage shed and the garage, hauled stuff to the Salvation Army, put the summer outdoor furniture/hoses etc. away, took Stella out for a fun walk on a trail, went to Zumba AND made stew for supper.
-
Been doing walking and Pilates these last few days. I need to get back more consistently with cardio.
Love all the pictures and Pilates Oreo!
Had my first 3D Mamogram today. Now 6 months out from lumpectomy. Hope to have results tomorrow at my MO
Appointment. I have to say am extremely nervous!
-
PlanB, in your pocket for tomorrow!
Congrats Nats!
Hard to believe that it is really autumn where some of you are....
Meanwhile, here in endless summer: I don't have pics to show from today's adventures, because I don't own an underwater camera, but today's exercise was two scuba dives off the Kona Coast, plus all the effort that goes into getting on and off the boat, hauling gear.....First dive, 49 feet, 51 minutes; Second dive, 62 feet for 48 minutes. Took it slow. Not my first dive since dx, but was the first below 30 feet or so....Had a great time, saw lots of cool stuff.

Octogirl
-
Octogirl: Love hearing about your trip!
Nats: Happy Anniversary!
PlanB: Good luck tomorrow!
Karen: You look so cute in your tutu!
Ruth: Looks like Stella loves her walks.
Hi All. I'm one year older now as of Saturday. Yea! 61 has been a piece of cake so far. Speaking of cake, I ate 3 pieces and loved every bit of it! Dd brought me out to eat Saturday night and yesterday I had a mini reunion with my side of the family. It was a GREAT weekend!
My exercise has been mowing over the weekend and walking/running this evening before the rain started.
-
Mary & Lisa, Happy Anniversary to you both and your DH's. Octogirl sounds like a great day. You look fabulous in your tutu Karen. Very busy day for you Ruth, may I dare to ask - how's the kitchen? In your pocket with you tomorrow PlanB.
Body Combat tonight although all I felt like doing was laying around in my underwear, it is so hot here you could fry eggs on the sidewalk!!!
-
Had biopsy Friday and was going to attend Zumba last night which got cancelled, so walked and did some light running on treadmill. Just felt a slight sting at biopsy site and had a very small spot in bra from some leakage...no big deal I don't think.
-
candi, doesn't sound like a big deal to me. Good luck on results! Same goes for PlanB. Hoping for clear results in 3D.
Belated happy birthday, wonderland! Happy anniversaries, Mary and Lisa!
Claire, ouch on the groin pull. Many more glorious rides in the Seattle fall to you.
Love the photos of butterflies, cats and dogs following the bears and Bambis. The tutu becomes you, karen.
ETA: Almost forgot, Body Jam last night and ran/walked 5K this morning.
-
Will be riding my hybrid bicycle this coming weekend as road bike is in the shop getting a new spoke. Yes, autumn is a glorious time to ride, but you do have to pay attention to wet leaves. I will do the gravel trail at the foot of the hill, and may make it to Fall City. Gravel is wonderful exercise and balance practice, if slow. Fortunately, the groin pull has mostly healed.
I did a run last night, which was wonderful in the autumn light. So special.
Back in the swing of things work-wise. Learned how to do online forms yesterday, migrating to a new system and updating in general. It's now integrated with our database which is a major step forward.
I promise to post pictures soon. Saw and did so many things over the past 2 weeks. Next year, I won't do the entire Cascade series as too restrictive, but the 3-4 events I really like instead. But it is nice to have the boast for this year. I think the Wine Country Trek is a ton of fun for example. Wonderful scenery, great people, great food, lots of exercise, balloons over the Lower Yakima Valley, and of course WINE!!!
Speaking of wine, it was amazing to see how unknown Washington wine still is on the East Coast. Which makes Christmas super-easy for my wine-drinking friends. ANYTHING I send them will be new and special.
Feel so fortunate to be able to do everything. I was struck how much less stamina my friend has when I visited her in Boston. She struggles to do a 2 mile walk, but to her credit, she does it! My BIL struggles to do a 15 minute walk. It's so important to keep moving.
Not to mention that it's FUN to be able to see and do everything...and be up for whatever adventure comes your way. - Claire
-
Thanks for the positive thoughts! No news yet as apparently there is a backlog hoping to hear soon! On another note my arm issues (tingling, going numb at times) are being discussed. As I had no node involvement it's a puzzle may have some nerve damage from rads. They are going to call with mamogram results and to let me know if PT, a consult with another Dr or wait and see.
Claire trip sounds great!
Octogirl Hawaii sounds amazing enjoy!
Happy 61 Wonderland! Happy Anniversary to both Mary and Lisa.
-
Planb, my arm tingled & went numb for a long time. Nerve damage does that (the good news is that nerves can grow back, the bad news is that it is a SLOW process).
Hope everything is okay Cindi.
A really nice day again. I went to my zumba/step/toning class this morning. One of my friends from class mentioned she was going to enjoy the weather by taking her dog for a long walk, so I borrowed the grand-dog and went along, so went to yoga tonight.
Cheryl, the crown molding replacement boards (paid for by the contractor) finally came in. We are NOT having him touch anything else. He gave us back some of our money & tonight DH and our plumber friend took down the bank of cabinets that sloped down & rehung them. This weekend he will rehang the pantry cabinet, redo the crown modeling & redo the frame around the window (since the window people have not returned our FOUR calls to them!). Maybe by sometime next week I will have a kitchen (now knocking on wood).
-
Candi: Hope your results are benign.
PlanB: The waiting is so hard! Sorry you're having arm issues. Be careful with it.
No formal exercise today except painting pumpkins. They are being sold as a fundraiser for our local adult day care. The day care wants them purple (or at least have purple on them) because purple is the color for Alzheimer's. Here are few that I have painted.
-
Fun pumpkins, Wonderland!
-
wonder, the pumpkin are awesome. You are talented
It was almost cold walking at 6:00 am but it got to 83. And of course at 7:30 pm it was cool and dark! I don't like these short days! Going to be nice most of the week till the weekend. Low 80's till Friday then 70's and 60's! I still haven't given up my sandals!!
-
Workout due tonight. Would have worked out Monday night, but it was late by the time we got home from my uncle's funeral and last night I was really not up to it.
