I will be doing radiation after my reconstruction using my own tissue and heard this type rads are better for not causing damage to nearby tissues. I am just having lymph node zapped, not breast. I have not talked to radiologist as yet and just want to go in armed with best info

I am not sure about the "3D-CRT" however I did do the short cycle radiation. I am finishing up next week with 20 treatments total (this includes the last 4 being boost). I have a great RO who explained the test that have been completed on the short cycle and why I was a good candidate for this type of radiation. I pray that you and your doctor come up with the best plan for you and that you are doing well.

Me too! We go to FL every February...do not want to miss that after all I have been through. I do have one pesky node, so that may change things for me

I did. 16 treatments of hypofractionated radiation (basically, all “boosts”) to the tumor cavity and a small surrounding margin. Other than painless skin reddening, tanning over the scar, swelling of the tumor-cavity seroma (making that breast a cup size larger and skewing my cleavage to the left) and fibrosis of the tissue surrounding the seroma, I didn’t suffer any of the moderate-to-severe side effects of the long std. (28 whole-breast regular-strenght + 5 tumor-cavity boosts) protocol such as nausea, fatigue, skin irritation or breaking. My tumor was in a convenient location (upper outside of the R breast), small (1.3 cm), Luminal A, and I was nearly 65, which was why I was a candidate for it. There was no need to make a mold or tattoo me—just Sharpie markers covered by waterproof long-lasting clear tape.

Sandy, they won't be doing my breast, just lymph node, do you think it works on lymph nodes? I will have already had DIEP so thought this may be less invasive and not bother my new fat filled breasts

Jiffrig, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work on the lymph nodes. They can target the beam with extreme precision.
