anyone else allergic to tamoxifen and AI's?
I have tried both. Hives over entire body, facial swelling, blood pressure 280/160, anxiety. So I am unable to take them. Have not told my onc about the AI reaction since he didn't even want to see or talk to me about my tam reaction. So I guess I just won't take anything. He is part of a large group, but the only group within 80 miles. I don't know how to ask to see someone else.

Hi veronicanne - Wow - sounds like a bad reaction. Have you ever had a similar reaction on any other med? I wonder if it might be the fillers that the two drugs have in common. Sounds scary. I wonder if your pharmacist might have any ideas. You could consider a different manufacture. Were both meds made by the same company? I have "asked the expert" several times on the breast cancer site at Johns Hopkins. The lady who runs it is very knowledgeable and helpful. She might have some thoughts on it.

I don't think there is much else. I have severe asthma so I tend toward allergies but never anything like this. But these meds are extremely toxic. Oh and I also only took 1/2 the prescribed dose! Meds are all different brands. I have been to that website. You can send your results in and, for a fee, they will give you advice.
I think it's telling that there are so many women who are desperate for advice. There isn't a cure and the treatment 'may' prevent recurrence. Living with cancer is not for cowards.
Thank you for your concern.

Veronica, so sorry about your reaction, i was fine on my aromasin but aspirin and all nsaids will send me to the Er!
If the cancer doc not listening, do you have an allergy Doc? I had a bad reaction to a steroid shot by my ent once so get nervous about anything new, yeah the fillers sèm to be the problem for some

veronica...so sorry you are going through this. Sounds like an anaphylactic reaction that was really scary. I agree that it was probably from the fillers. Just wondering if you are pre or post menopausal since you tried both tamoxifen and the Al. IMO you should see another MO who will listen to you and work with you. However if you still can't take either there are things you can do to lower your estrogen levels naturally. I have chosen not to take anti hormone therapy so feel free to private message me if you want to talk more. Unfortunately talking about it on this forum publicly is not received well. Good luck and keep us posted...

I have looked on a British website and they are very in tune to different brands. I am 63. Onc put me on femara but I have osteoporosis and high chol that I wanted to take care of first, so got tam to start with. I am scared to try other AI's. I suspect that they will all be problematic. I just think I need another doc.

Yes, since those episodes, I am scared to take any pills. I even view my asthma inhaler in a different light. Who knew!
