I had a DMX (left preventative) with 16 lymph nodes removed and radiation. Between the two, my right shoulder is out of alignment even though I have most of my range of motion back.I really want to go to the chiropractor, but naturally I'm concerned about lymphedema. Does anyone have any experience with chiropractic care?

My wife is seeing her chiropractor and her LE therapist twice a week each. I would be terrified of a "I know what's best" attitude from a chiropractor given that their whole treatment method involves putting pressure on body parts. The chiropractor my wife chose is very respectful and knows that his treatment always comes second, and if there is any conflict at all over whether some specific adjustment presents a risk, the LE therapist gets to say whether it can happen or not.

And yes, even with his treatment being very limited, she says the chiropractic does really help with mid-back pain and shoulder pain.

LL, welcome to bc.org--I'm sorry for the reasons that bring you here, but glad you found us. You don't mention whether you already have lymphedema or a lymphedema therapist. If you haven't seen a well-trained lymphedema therapist, you can ask any doctor on your team for a referral and make an appointment for baseline arm measurements for future reference and personalized risk reduction tips. Here's how to find a qualified lymphedema therapist near you:

S/he would be able to answer your questions about chiropractic treatments and might have other suggestions as well for dealing with the shoulder problems.

Please do let us know what you discover. Hugs,
    Binney

I have a friend in her late 20s who has LE in one of her arms related to a non-cancer related surgery. She never sought treatment, too busy with kids. I suggested she see a qualified therapist. She never got around to it. She then was in a car accident & went to a chiropractor for pain associated with that. The chiropractor noticed her LE & assisted her to minimize it. From what she described to me, manual drainage techniques. She quit going to the chiropractor & her LE has worsened. So, I guess it would depend on the chiropractor.

Thank you, I don't think I have lymphedema at this point. I was initially scheduled to see a lymphedema therapist in February, 9 full months after surgery 😕 but was bumped up due to my current issues. Hopefully they'll get me fixed up
