High Alkaline Phosphatase

I am 7 years out from triple positive breast cancer. I have had alkaline phosphatase that has slowly been rising. My doctor ordered a GGT which was normal. I am looking at having a bone scan soon and am quite worried that I may now have bone cancer. Has anyone else had higher alkaline phosphatase that ended up being fine? I am besides myself with worry right now.

    A fatty liver can also be the culprit. How high is your alk phos?

    Also I would think that you're TM's would be a better indication if alk phos isn't very high. Bone scan will show abnormal uptake if it is.

    It is 173, I also take Arimidex and am reading that that can increase alk phos.

    Hi Blondie, Alkaline Phosphatase can be elevated for many reasons, so they usually look at it in combination with other enzyme and marker levels. I had elevated Alkaline Phosphatase during and after chemo. At one point maybe because the labs were taken soon after exercise the GGT was very high but it turned out to be nothing.

    173 is not very high for alkaline phosphatase and I hope it will turn out to be nothing.

    They often aren't too concerned with those liver numbers unless they're at least double (which though not concerning for docs, would sure be concerning for me). Since it's trending upwards, you definitely want to keep an eye on it. Keep us posted how the bone scan goes. Are they doing that for ongoing pain?

    Went in for the scan today and already got a call from the doctor's office that everything looked great. It was so awesome of them to call me right away and not let me think about it all weekend. Thanks for all the responses of encouragement!!!
