Feeling of fullness in "healthy" breast

Has anyone felt a feeling of fullness similar to milk let-down while nursing? I felt this before I was diagnosed with IDC and DCIS in my right breast. I am about to have a unilateral MX on that cancerous breast this Friday. Now I am nervous about having the same feeling (just in the last week or so) in the "healthy" breast I am keeping. I had decided to not do a prophylactic mastectomy- I wanted evidence that that breast needed to go. Now having this feeling in the breast I am keeping is making me nervous. What to do? Should I ask for an ultrasound this week to check it? MRI/Pet scan/Mammograms (in early June) didn't show any evidence of cancer there.

That "fullness" feeling is one I will never forget. Once it meant it was time for baby to eat. The other time it was something much less happy. Yes. Have an ultrasound, mammo, MRI, whatever they are willing to order and your insurance is willing to pay for. I would want confirmation if you are getting some of the same sensations that alerted you that breast no. 1 wasn't healthy.

The chances of IDC in two breasts is small of course. The best thing that could happen is there is nothing that they could find. The worst would be undergoing a unilateral and then having to go back in for another.

Call your "team" in the morning (no one is working today, assuming you are in the States) and calmly tell them what you are feeling and what you want them to do to allay your fears/concerns.

    Good luck!

Thank you Susan! I texted my BS this morning and will see what he says.

My BS replied he will be checking everything during the unilateral mastectomy. Since the MRI and mammogram were fine he doesn't think anything more should be done this week before the surgery.

4girls.... I might, if I were you, ask him/her what that means, "check everything." Will he have an ultrasound machine in there? What will he be checking? And then, if you trust you team, go with it. It is important that they understand that you will be your own advocate, which is different than being confrontational.

Good luck with your surgery. I hope that it goes well and that you recover quickly.

i admit it would be very strange that in 3 months you developed a cancer in the other breast, or that itwas missed by 3 scans, but I understand your anxiety and wanting peace of mind going in the surgery
