Hi everyone!

I'm in NYC and had silicon implants inserted 4 weeks ago (3 years after RADS on one side at NYU) My radiated side was pretty good. Skin turned darker, and that side is somewhat smaller but overall pliable. Right now breasts look pretty good. You can see them settling slowly but surely. The radiated side is firmer (as it was from the start) and a hair higher so I've been mindful of massaging.

My question is, if the radiated breast should need it, can I have fat graft injected around the existing implant? Is this a relatively minor procedure?

Thanks! I'm loving all the dialogue here!

Mary

Well I had DIEP and fat grafting. Fat grafting, with fat taken from my thighs was the more painful part of all my reconstruction. I had to wear a garment and I was bruised. Yes afterward it look a little more defined. I never had radiation so my abdomen skin blended smoothly with the rest. Four years later and losing 20 pounds my ps would like to do another round of fat grafting. Insurance will pay but there is a bit of healing afterward. I think I am going to wait until next year. Fat grafting needs to be maintained for me every 5 years. I am 58 and I'll do it again but I am sure sometime I'll say enough. I am still losing weight gained from hormone therapy. I sure hope I never see cancer again.

I have my exchange in December. My PS has said we will do the implant and then perhaps +6 months make a decision about fat grafting...so from my limited experience, it is totally possible to do later and as meow just said, it can be repeated if necessary
