Let's Post our Daily Exercise

I did two walks today. 30 minutes with my son and dog around the neighborhood. Then 50 minutes around the lake with my husband. Tired so I will be asleep soon zzzzz...
-
Day cycling and wine tasting adventure was just fab!!! Not all that much cycling, but a catch up time with my friends, and we eventually got to the winery. What a wonderful place to chill, drink wine, buy wine, and then figure out how to transport the wine back. We did it.
I got two bottles - one of Mueller Thurgau, and another of a rose blend. I just dove into the second to have with my sausages and leftover veggies. What a feast!!!
I have ALMOST got the "put bicycle on bus rack" routine down.
Felt incredibly smug as we looked at those who arrived to the tasting room/vineyard by car. I would personally rather spend the money on wine. ~$40 total if you take the car by ferry. ~$5 by bicycle.
Got chatted up by a fellow cyclist on the bus into Seattle. He is a lot more hard core, and alas married. But fun nonetheless. Suspect the other passengers thought we were totally wacko. Who cares??? Was fun comparing cycling notes. He missed a lot of summer events because of a new job. I was able to commiserate because of what I was up to a year ago when my consulting ship came in.
Gorgeous scenery on the way to the winery. Wisely chose the main road for the trip back and just made the ferry back to Seattle. Worst part of the trip is the torn up waterfront. What a mess!!! Can't wait for it to be done.
Part 2 of my weekend adventure starts tomorrow when I leave for Packwood via Paradise to do the High Pass Challenge, weenie version. Another one for the annals. So much cool stuff to do, so little time. - Claire
-
Attawoman, Claire, love reading about your adventures. A weenie you are not!
I'm going to take a walk soon while it's still cool. Finishing coffee first though. :-)
-
Claire, wine tasting + excercising = divine!
My hubs is a pretty serious amateur cyclist, and he goes on an organized ride in Paso Robles, CA every year, which combines an intense ride, along with wine tasting. He loves it
Hope you have pics to post!
I did my usual 1 hour hike this a.m. Humid as heck, but not complaining.
-
No, not a weenie, Claire - by any standards. Have another fun day today. I was just envisioning a milk crate full of wine on the back and front of your bike!
In November 2014 (one year after finishing chemo, rads), I took this quiz and I came up 5 years younger than my chronological age. Today I am 16 years younger than my chronological age!!!!!!!
Thank you, team, for the motivation!
-
Exercise and wine! What a great combo!
Thanks for the quiz Twohobbies! It said I am 11 years younger!
I have continued to get a little over a mile in on the dreadmill the last few days. Hoping to get a few miles today between the dreadmill and outside this evening.
-
45 min walk plus sweeping the front porch & sidewalk. Glad I got out early, it's gonna be a hot one today!
-
Off for a spot of hiking today, overnight camping and then the weenie ride. For anyone interested, the ride is the Cascade Bicycle Club High Pass Challenge. Last major ride of the season. I will also be doing the Kitsap Color Classic at the end of September, but that will most likely be just the 25 mile loop to Indianola, which is gorgeous and quaint.
Next weekend is more riding and wine tasting, but this time near Prosser WA, and then camping at a vineyard near Yakima. Looking forward to that one as well.
Suspect that tonight's beverage will be beer along with the pre-ride pasta feed
BTW - lots of guys in spandex with great bodies. One of the benefits of endurance cycling. (Mine isn't half bad either.) - Claire
-
Claire, get a tee shirt made that says "I'm in it for the spandex!"
TwoHobbies, I just took the quiz and feel quite spritely as it says I am 15 years younger. Whoo Hoo, no wonder I don't act my age! We are kicking butt (our own, anyway!
)
I have been totally swamped the last couple days; DH has determined that the bottom cabinets & the ones by the sink are okay enough to leave (he will stand over the carpenter guy with a ruler (and possibly a hammer) as he rehangs the others & redoes the crown molding), so I have been cleaning, sorting, throwing, organizing as much as I can. Today I need to do half an hour of something aerobic & 45 minutes of toning to make my goal for the week......so it will be squeezed in somewhere amongst everthing else!
-
Makes you feel good, doesn't it, Ruth and Logang? Its good to have a measure of progress and success!
-
Two Hobbies. . .thanks for posting the fitness test. I'll take 19 years younger. Wish I felt that way most of the time but I guess it just shows the potential for improvement as I up my exercise game. 5 miles today, including 3 on the dreadmill. Now to get back to my hiking.

thanks to Ruth's encouragement on another thread, I am posting here....trying to get in shape and lose some weight a year plus a bit after dx. Going on a scuba vacation in Hawaii in a few weeks and I really enjoy the scuba more when I feel stronger, even if it isn't the most aerobic sport out there...
So walked about two miles this morning before it got hot. It felt good to go at a fairly fast (for me) pace.
Thanks for the inspiration and gentle prodding Ruth!

Whoo Hoo! Glad to see you here Octogirl. Hawaii.....now that is motivation!!!
(I have to shut the computer down now.....we have a tornado warning around here......yikes!)
-
stay safe, Ruth.
Claire- you always have such great adventures.
Welcome, Octogirl!
No organized exercise today except loading and unloading the car with everything to move DD back to college today.
Back to school for me tomorrow.
-
Yikes Ruth stay safe. I'm 60 not 66 according to the survey, I'll take it. Welcome Octogirl, I actually thought of you today, we drove down to Temecula so was close to the Mission Inn glad to have you over here it really is a mortivational thread and don't compare yourself to anyone else, we clap and cheer if you do a walk around the block or a marathon we're all here to encourage each other in what we are able to do that being said today I only have 3000 steps, been sitting in a car most of the day and then cake tasting, oh my goodness - decisions decisions.
I wish we could have the flavors of cake place #2 with the decoration design of cake place #1 and something very magical happened at place #2, we were pretty settled on #1 but we walked into #2 and as we sat down and looked up there was a beautifully dressed teddy bear, Hannah's grandmother was my BFF who passed away in 2005 of ovarian cancer and she had a massive teddy bear collection, then the woman brings out all the cakes and fillings and amongst the filling was Baileys Irish Cream, her favourite drink, the three of us just burst into tears it was like she was with us in spirit, yup #2 it is!!!
-
TwoHobbies....I came out 18 years younger!!!
Starting to feel the impact of my DD#2 leaving...down to 6 days and I'm feeling melancholy about it....I am very excited for her opportunity, but I am so going to miss her!!!! We spent today running errands and getting last minute things that she needs. She is sorting through her clothes and figuring out what she is taking!!! She will be gone till mid June...I'll go see her during my winter break, but the longest I've gone without seeing her so far is 2 months!!
Got to do some reports for work...The year is off to a busy start!!!
-
hbcheryl love when messages/memories from loved ones appear at unexpected times! I love baileys myself!
I have been doing country heat the last couple of days and continue to really like it!
This week we close on the lake house! So excited! Have been painting furniture to take and starting to gather some supplies. We have a golf commitment on Friday but will be moving some furniture in on Saturday and be there the rest of the weekend!
Claire the wine tasting sounded great!
Happy back to school Ginger
-
PlanB, I could get into country heat, too! The lake house sounds like a fun project. Cheryl, that made my skin crawl.
Glad to see so many are much younger than their calendar years. DH can't believe he is married to someone so young!
3-hour bike ride with DH.
-
loving the cooler morning walks, but not the darker mornings! It is just starting to get light at 6 am! Guess I can't have it both ways.
5 days!
-
Oh Cheryl, what a lovely story. It made me cry too. Not at all surprised that your BF would contact you through cake .
Karen, I think it almost harder getting them ready to go than to have them gone. Transition times are always poignant times to me.
-
I'm 12 years younger - I'll take being 48 again! Welcome, Octo!! Cheryl - love the teddy bear and Bailey's story. Ruth - hope you were safe. PlanB - how exciting about the lake house!
Busy weekend - lots of walking on Saturday as we took in the Nats-Rockies game, It was a great time except at the very end when our bullpen imploded and gave up 5 runs in the 11th. Oh well, it was a fun day anyway. We got in 5 miles of walking since we get off Metro a few miles away from the ballpark and walk in to avoid changing trains. It's a lovely walk past the Capitol and all along historic streets and homes on Capitol Hill. Sunday was too hot to run outside so off to the dreadmill again for an inside run. Then we hit the pool for a couple of hours to end a relaxing day. I really need to retire so I can do this all the time!
-
The storms went east of us; but it was a kind of dicey night & there are still a bunch of storm warnings both north & east of us (watch out Deb, they may be coming your way).
Mary, when you retire, then you will be busy getting done everything you didn't have time to do before! I got my kitchen as in shape as possible over the weekend. Lots of work!! I have a huge garbage bag full of cups with broken off handles, raggy oven mitts etc. to toss & another big pile of things to bring to the Salvation Army (I need all new pots with my ceramic cooktop)......everything I can't put away until the carpenter comes back is in the spare bedroom, so my next step is to CLEAN the rest of the house. The fun never ends
-
thanks, Ruth, we have possible storms tonight & tomorrow then a string of nice days.
I want to retire too! Sick of ultra-early mornings, crazy long commute, and banging my head against a brick wall all day long. I like my customers and love my co-workers but there's so much work and we're so short-staffed there's barely time to breathe. So glad I stopped bringing work home. Best decision I've made in a while. That and deciding to use up some vacation time by leaving an hour early. ;-)
Quick walk early this morning. Park by my house has a nice paved walking path. Once around the loop is a half-mile. Perfect. Saw Orion in the sky so summer is ending.
-
Did more sorting of stuff this morning, had a long eye doctor appointment (I am biting the bullet and getting prescription sunglasses......which required trying on every pair in the office & walking around outside with a couple options as well), went to the substitute teacher's meeting, then Zumba, Yoga and now back to the house stuff.....blah!
-
Back from all my adventures.... First, once done unloading and airing out my slightly musty tent, was peeling my cycling clothes off myself, and fumigating my own body. 2 days of exercise plus heat plus outhouses plus no bath. I didn't see a handy place for a dip, or at least not near the finish. Will post pix later.
Yesterday, was a trip to Paradise, or the high alpine meadows on the south side of Mt Rainier. I had no idea all the walking trails near the lodge are paved as had only been there in the winter which I think is prettier. So glad I saw it, and the glaciers are really fascinating. Saw lots of flowers. All said, for a hike, I would rather do the Naches Peak Loop.
Then onto Packwood via the back roads. Again, roads I had never traveled, but got there and pitched my tent. Not as many campers as I had imagined, but this was great fun. The gloaming was spectacular, but even more spectacular was the night sky, which I got to take in on my way to the outhouse. Stars were just huge, and I wish I remember the more minor constellations better.
I had dinner at the local place and chatted with a couple who have been hiking the Pacific Crest Trail for 3 months. They are in their early 40s and were thrilled that someone 20+ years older than they are is able to do things like cycle 60 miles and also hike.
Today was an early start, but as I was doing the 60 mile, not the 113 mil route, I took it easy and started at 8. Had a wonderful fresh out of the oven blueberry muffin along with in-house roasted coffee. Then, we had a herd of elk cross just as we were getting underway. I had to walk a major hill, but did the others. The Cowlitz Valley is just lovely, and there is an upland valley that runs parallel to it. That is what I got to see. Gorgeous views, and a fun descent. Way back was along a real country road, very scenic and also quiet and shady. Just fun to tool along.
I was expecting the last 6 miles along the highway to be brutal, but we had a TAIL WIND. I had misplaced my meal and trinket tickets, but they believed me, so I was fun for a metal beer glass and a hot dog (not to mention a well-earned beer).
Then (only) three hours driving home, but fortunately was able to skirt the traffic and even sneak in a stop at the veggie stand.
And I have WINE for dinner! Thinking a tuna salad made with fresh veggies to offset the burger and dog. - Claire

When I was in Israel, I bought a necklace for my mother...it was in a teeny, tiny paper bag and I put it somewhere safe so I wouldn't loose it during all my adventures.....of course I forgot where I put it and thought it was in a pocket in my luggage...and when I got home I couldn't find it anywhere along with 2 other missing items (ice pack and 3 pluggy thing)....Well, tonight I was giving my daughter my travel toiletry bag to take with her for next year....and while showing her all the pockets, I see this little white piece of paper....thinking it was a receipt, till I feel something hard...and it was the necklace....if that didn't make my day and week!! I told my mother that it was stolen out of my luggage and she didn't seem to care...I gave her hand lotion from the Dead Sea and she was happy with that.
Its been a very hard and trying 3 weeks with family stuff and it was so nice to have good news!!! Hopefully things are turning around!! All is okay with me, just dealing with my mother's neurological disease and decline and a few other things...
I can't believe there is only 4 more days till my daughter leaves. After so long of anticipation and excitement, it is almost here. She is packing (slowly) and trying to see all her friends...I think she is going out the next 3 nights! I do get her home for dinner though!! Friday we will spend the morning together and go out to lunch. By then she will need to be ALL packed as we leave for the airport Saturday night shortly after Shabbat ends. I so wish I could cry. I will miss her so, but I'm thrilled for her. And of course I'll be counting the days till I go visit her on my winter break.
This year, I'm travelling between buildings many days, and haven't been getting a mid day walk in....so today, I decided that I deserve my walk (lunch) and going to take the time. I think this year is going to be crazy busy! I'm already feeling overwhelmed!!! I went for a walk with my daughter as soon as I got home from work and then again after dinner with DH and DD.
Claire, you are amazing...how do yo find time to work!!
Ruth, post pictures of the kitchen when it is done.
-
WOW, Claire!
So glad you found the necklace, Karen. Hopefully things will settle into a manageable schedule once it gets going. I may have to post a picture of the kitchen BEFORE it gets done!
-
What an adventure, Claire! What a relief, Karen!
BodyJam last night and salsa tonight.
-
POUND & Barre. Boo Hoo, the Barre teacher's work schedule has changed & she won't be able to teach anymore. Right now she is the only certified instructor around. Dang!
-
today's walk was just around the campus at work....slept later than intended, and for the first time in forever, it felt cold (it wasn't, all is relative) so I didn't want to get up to walk. Then, remembered I had to teach a graduate seminar this am (not something I do regularly, just a now and then guest speaker type of gig) so the rest of my exercise was rushing around to get to work on time.
I want to retire too! (even though my commute is very short)
