MellisaDallas, I'm from San Antonio TX. As far from the gulf as we were it was still to humid to function. I worked outside with horses. Miserable!

Trill, Klondike Bar! I just remembered I snagged one from my Mom and it's still waiting for me. Wanna share?! I'm so glad you didn't go to Saudia Arabia either! It's just not the place for a fun loving gal like you to be! Besides, it's nothing you did, the guy was unstable and it was God's way of saving you from bodily harm!
I've never contacted a paranormal group, they usually come in, stir stuff up and leave you to deal with the unhappy spirits. Besides I'm not ready to be Ghost Famous yet! I haven't had any foot pulling in years but occasionally something will pull my hair hard enough to make my head snap back. Try explaining that to a Walmart full of people!
DisneyGirl, sometimes I'd feel something bad in the middle of the night, jump up out of my bed and just start running. I'd run until I ran into a wall and be smacked awake! It would wake hubby up and he'd ask "Did you catch it?!" They just seem to follow me.
We moved to Woodstock IA many years ago. It's the town Groundhog Day with Bill Murry was filmed in. The house we rented was a newer model. I had a collection of bells out on a glass shelf that was very dusty. I was folding clothes and our three kids came home from school and we were just sitting on my bed going over their day. One of the bells started ringing at first we thought holly crap it's an earthquake! But my youngest son says "Mom! Look at your bell!" The only thing moving was the pendulum! I got up, picked up the bell, stopped the pendulum, put the bell back and then we'd sit and wait. The pendulum started very slowly to move again. I repeat the process 3 times. Then the other bells started sliding around on the shelf! Talk about bullets from a gun, those 3 kids were gone and left me by myself! I heard some yelling downstairs and the kids ran so fast they ran over dad trying to get out of the house! He came up, looked at me, I pointed to the bells and all he said was "Holly Shitz! Why are you still sitting there?!?" I said "It's my room! They need to go not me!" Then the bells just stopped. He left and came back with a big box and newspapers and we boxed those bells up and they've been packed away ever since.

Trill, you've now got me singing the tune of "What would you do for a Klondike Bar?" Did they market them with that little ditty in US television commercials years ago like they did here?
Right now I wouldn't do much but walk across the kitchen to my freezer to get one - good thing I don't have any. But, there have been times I would have made a half an hour trip to the store for one. I figure if I bike there I deserve it. I never liked the half an hour bike back though.

Lori, wasn’t that Woodstock, IL, not IA? The town of Woodstock, IL makes a big deal about its having been the film’s stand-in for Punxsutawney, PA. (And some interiors were filmed here on the n. side of Chicago). Woodstock, IL--especially its town square--was also the model for the town in “Lady & the Tramp."

JBeans--I don't know but that ditty is now going through my silly head! What would I do for a Klondike? Prolly crawl... Thanks for reminding me of it~. It used to be Good Humors but then Klondikes took over...I made that homemade ice cream and it's still in the fridge..I can't make up my mind about it! One minute I take a bite and go oooooohhhh too sweet (it takes a whole can of sweetened condensed milk) and then next it's good.....so the jury is out....but it was kinda amazing how close to the real thing it is for just two ingredients and basically one or two steps...I mean dump a can in a bowl! Then whip the cream...then fold it into the sweetened condensed milk and into an ice cube tray or brownie pan and then DONE....I think mine needs some chocolate on it! THAT'S what it needs!!!
Just opened the windows and curtains...decided that cabin fever is worse than the heat! You feel like you're living in non-time, non-place....LIMBO...it's awful! I think I'd rather be dealing with a problem than being in limbo....
How go the bees??
Lori-- Your stories are so so funny! I never tire of them....I'm ready to move west and join you...your place sounds like one living, breathing, 24/7 adventure...ghosts, tinkling bells, mom keeping you on the edge of your seat, AND critters roaming aboutt!! Non-stop fun! Or at least non-stop interesting....
But seriously, any ONE of those events you have experienced would have me with the screaming-meemies! I don't think I'd ever sleep! My one episode I do think was a very vivid dream that woke me up....but YOURS? Crazy!!!
General question: Did any of you ever fry tomato slices? My mom did this every summer in our big black skillet--they were so great....MelissaDallas, you brought up tomatoes and now all I want is fried tomatoes for dinner!!! So much good eating in the summer...
I've under-painted eight of the big blocks but have yet to get photos of the finished ones...I realized I need to set up the larger lamps to get the best results, and in this heat the last place I want to venture into is the hot, dark closet and into the boxes there.....but will do and let you guys see...

Mmmmmm... I love fried tomatoes.
I sprinkle a little salt and pepper on mine or a little Parmesan cheese as they cook. Yum. Now I want them too. Maybe for breakfast tomorrow as I've got a big juicy one with one bite out of it, thanks to my 3 year old, just sitting on the counter waiting to be eaten.

I've had fried green tomatoes, but nor ripe ones. If we're talking summer fried stuff I want my grannie's okra, squash, onions and potatoes all cut up and corn-mealed and fried together. Or fresh black-eyed peas cooked with bacon.

Sandy, yes it was IL, thank you for the correction. My chemo brain is getting cities/states/movies mixed up! We lived in Adel IA where some of the Bridges of Madidon County was made. That was interesting too. I got to see some pretty popular actors... Clint Eastwood etcbut only from a distance. bummer

MelissaDallas, Massillon is closer to where my daughter lives. I live in the southwestern part of Ohio. The climate is great for growing tomatoes and corn when the weather cooperates. We usually end up with too much rain or a drought.
Oh, Lori, I laughed out loud at your husband's "Did you catch it?" comment. And the bell story is great. I'm not sure what I would do in that situation. I may have run over your husband like your kids did. LOL. It is great that your husband understands what is going on. He may not like it but he "gets" it.
Trill, my mom always made fried green tomatoes in a cast iron skillet. I didn't really care for them when I was younger. I guess I had to wait for my palate to mature. :-) And, of course, now I also want a Klondike bar and have the song in my head. I think you should definitely put chocolate on the ice cream you made. Everything is better with chocolate.

Ooooooohhhhhh, DisneyGirl---You are so right! Chocolate is what it needs! I went to the store and did not get more ingredients but will limit myself to that WHOLE BREAD PAN FULL I ALREADY HAVE IN THE FRIDGE!!! Aren't I a good girl?? Hah!
My good friend Mimi is having some hernia surgery tomorrow...she just turned 80 and is a working nun and keeps herself very busy. She had a stomach pain and they found a small hernia...she doesn't; sound too concerned about it...I made my salmon/red potatoes/green beans/onion/parsley dish...it's so good...am gonna take her a bunch of that plus some of those nice Safeway French dinner rolls...sooooo good.... she was so great during my breast surgery, sitting with me most of the three hour wait... They must deliberately keep the in/out surgery area cool and with no underwear on I was freezing! They kept heaping warm blankets on me...after blanket # 2 the nurse asked if I wanted the previous blankets--that had lost their warmth by then--taken away and I said no, leave them all on! Of course that sounds funny on this 90 degree day!!

Trill I will pray for your friend. Funny about the blankets. When I was in the ER all those hours after my hematoma rupture I had something like 9 blankets on me by the time they took me to a room. I wouldn't let the nurse take them away.

Molly-- Oh it's good to hear someone else knows what I'm talking about when I say how cold I was! I wonder--does anybody know why you have to be nude under the little gown? I mean not even a pair of panties? Is it in case they have to do some emergency thing and need, um, access? I should have asked when I was there--I did have three plus hours of waiting, after all! I just didn't think about it.
OK--can't stay up all night watching the Games like I've been doing every night for almost two weeks...but hey, we won Bronze in beach volleyball! I just saw the Gold medal game between Brazil and Germany and have to say that since they beat us last night I was glad to see Brazil get knocked down to Silver by the Germans! Bravo! Or is it Brava?
And we swept the hurdles!! That run looks so wicked hard...those gals crashing all over...

Trill, when I went in for my port placement and I was told to strip down to nothing but the light chilly gown they provide, my hubby asked why? The answer made a lot of sense once he thought about.
They have you naked under the gown so they don't bring anything into the OR that can contaminate ANYTHING. Sterile is the way to go at all times.
My hair has REALLY started to fall out! I'm not sure just how I feel about it, some days Oh Well... other days Holly Snikies! It's true! LOL

Trill, best wishes for your friend's surgery. Hope all goes well. And trying to stay up late to watch the Olympics has caught up with me. The last 2 nights I have fallen asleep and missed most of what I wanted to see. With getting up for work in the mornings, there is no way I would have been able to stay up and watch the women's volleyball, no matter how much I wanted to.
Lori, sorry that you are losing your hair already.

Golly--your beautiful hair. Well, am sorry to see this....know it's part of the process. Are you going to shave it or let it do its thing over time? Any wigs in mind or are you gonna go Commando On Top....?
Mimi liked her dish..or at least I think so. I left it with her and we had a nice visit until she tired. But I took rolls, butter, the dish, and a stack of fig newtons, which she dove into...that was good to see! Means she's getting better already!

I LOVE the term "commando on top" Good luck Lori. My mom's hair has grown in all lovely and soft and curly. (She used to have poker straight hair) I hope you love how yours grows back when it does.

I have had the bug to buy a box of Magnum double caramel bars since you started talking about Klondikes. I wish Haagen Daaz would bring back the strawberry ice cream dipped in white chocolate ones. I have a friend online whose husband was stationed in Japan. Did you know they make cherry blossom ice cream there

MelissaDallas--No, had no idea-but it sounds yummy! I need to try one of those Magnum bars--they look crazy wonderful. I love Dove bars too.....but for now Klondikes are fine...are more than enough...I got a regular one and one that said sugar-free...I thought, ok let me try it...but it was....funny....it didn't melt as fast...which was good...but it wasn't creamy....and in sweetness definitely lacking....back to the drawing board, Klondike company!

There is a pint each of Talenti Salted Caramel & Ciao Bella Dark Chocolate gelati and Ciao Bella Blood Orange sorbetto in my freezer.......and they're calling my name....in 3-part harmony. Must... be... strong--strawberries, basil & balsamico instead, maybe a square of Ghirardelli Midnight 86% chocolate....

I was watching a neat documentary about ice cream and they went to the Haagen Dasz (sp???) factory and the woman who invented it says she just made up the name and it MEANS NOTHING! It just sounded good! Love that!
Whatever happened to Fruzen Glade (sp????????)? Maybe THAT'S the ice cream whose name means nothing....hmmm..haven't seen that doc in a while...then again, Frozen Glade, or however it's spelled, does sound like it's saying frozen something or other....
ChiSandy-- How is it you've memorized all those intricate names? I would imagine it would take me as long to write them out as to eat them all..hah!

Trill, eat something often enough and the name’s burned into your brain! I’ve been buying these two ice cream brands for quite a while, Whole Foods has them on sale often, and they come in these neat polycarb jars that are reusable--so I see the names over & over again in my fridge, holding chicken soup, leftover corned beef hash, berries I’ve picked, etc.
I remember Frusen Gladje--the mfr claimed it was Swedish for “Frozen Joy.” Of course, the mfr.’s name was Smith and the stuff was made here. But it, too, came in reusable plastic containers--for the longest time, one held packets of yeast on my freezer door.
I remember one of the first radio jingles for Ben & Jerry’s:
"There ain’t no “Haagen" at Haagen Dasz
There ain’t no “Frusen" at Frusen Gladje
There ain’t nobody named “Steve” at Steve’s
But there’s two real guys at Ben & Jerry’s!”
Of course, Ben & Jerry’s has taken over the industry. I remember when they were this cult niche brand and had only one big-city shop, near the Public Garden in Boston; it was always jammed!
Oh, BTW, I went with the Talenti Dark Chocolate sorbetto, not the Ciao Bella Dark Chocolate gelato, and though carbier than the gelato it had 100 fewer calories.

The Talenti Roman Raspberry sorbetto is fabulous too, and I'm not usually a raspberry lover. It is also the most gorgeous color. Sure would make a nice grown-up version of kids punch with some champagne poured over it

You are all making me crave ice cream but I am lactose intolerant so it's rare I eat any. Besides I am enjoying the weight loss due to my adventure in the ER and hospital, lol

HI Molly--I was just thinking of you the other day and wondering how you are faring----so this was nice to read, that your mind is just where it should be: on eating!
ChiSandy--I use the big Chobani containers to hold my brushes and my homemade yogurt,not at the same time, however.. (I can see a SNL parody of Kathy Mitchell and other infomercial perennials spouting the benefits of a product and mentioning that the container is a multi-tasker--as in "And you can keep your homemade yogurt and your paint brushes in the large plastic container when it's empty!" and the two making a mess all over the counter and on her, etc.... There was a memorable National Lampoon article spoofing L L Bean ads advertising a tampon that expanded into a canoe "For the menstruating sportswoman." Got many laughs out of that one...
You guys are making me hungry for CHUNKY MONKEY. I love that stuff and could down a little pint container in one sitting--or standing, as I usually ate it in the kitchen and it was gone by the time the freezer door closed...
Just made a big ole pan of salmon/red potato/etc dish...I never tire of it...and that's a hard trick to pull! So am set for a bit and now onto Chapter 11 of the Ze Buch..
The Games are winding down....boo hoo...will miss them.....if anybody's been watching and can tell me what those little mementoes are that they hand out with the medals do you know their story? They look to be painted bronze. They're the symbol of the Rio games and are so much better than those puny bouquets that remind me of the "flowers" that Jerry Springer must give warring lovers before they take the stage and propose and have the bouquets bounced off their heads later on when they admit to boy or gal friend they've been screwing the roommate, etc....here I am confessing to watching Jerry Springer....I can always count on a JS segment to clear my sinuses with the laughing... I really wonder if any of our adversaries ever watch this show and scratch their heads and ask "THIS is what we're up against??"

I really miss the Olympics! Even Miss Panty is sad they're over....
The sinuses are flaring...ugh....I think he's gonna say that since we did a big month-long thing with cortisone--which is like a miracle drug--the only thing to do now is to go in there and clear things out, reduce the polyp. The cough is pretty annoying. I do my rinsing religiously but the backup of mucus just overwhelms the ole body.....hate the thought of a second surgery...!! Can hardly believe I'm even writing this. I thought I had it somewhat licked... Blahhhhh!!!!!

HiTrill!! I miss the Olympics too. I have been crazy busy with work so not much time this week. I am healing nicely and anxious to be released to my normal duties. I miss Lori and her sense of humor. I hope she's feeling okay. I hope you get the sinus stuff worked out.
