BC mets to lungs?

Options

Hello forum, very new here, please help! This is all brand new to me since it's all happened just in the past week and my mind is kind of racing, so it's very hard to just digest all the information and get the help/answers I was looking for. The brief rundown of my situation is:

- First went in for annual mammogram and a lump was found

- Went for saunogram and then they did a biopsy to check the lump to see if it was cancerous

- After the biopsy they confirmed that I had an IDC cancer and mentioned to me that the lump was about 1.2cm in diameter and were classifying me as a stage 1. The surgeon, oncologist, and radiologist all said that it most likely was a stage 1 early detected cancer.

- Based on this information I decided to do a lumpectomy, which is scheduled for next week. Since I told them that I had a cough they decided to do a CT scan, which then showed what the nurse said was a "tiny nodule" that they will probably just keep an eye on over the next year. The doctor has not yet called me but of course I'm freaking out because I assume this just means that the cancer has spread already to the lungs. The oncologist hasn't talked to me yet, but I just wanted to know if this means I'm basically stage 4 and my 5 year prognosis for survival is very low, as it shows on different websites? Is it possible that the nodule isn't a spreading of the cancer? It's just very scary to go from a believed stage 1 early detection to stage 4 diagnosis within days.

Hello, so sorry about your diagnosis. It is a scary thing. But I think you might be jumping to conclusions. I actually was a CT tech. Many people have nodules to show up on their scan. If they said they were just going to keep an eye on it for a year, then they really are not thinking it is cancer. I think you need to wait and see what your Dr says. If it was mets there, then yes you would be stage 4. But hopefully it's not. Wishing you the best.

I have a 4mm solitary lung nodule in my right upper lobe. It was found on a CT angiogram. They compared it to the PET/CT from 4 months prior and it showed no growth. I was told: "Don't worry about it, we see them all the time". My hospital is nationally ranked in cancer and my oncologist was listed in the top 5% in the nation. I know it's hard but early on I took the stance, if my doctors tell me not to worry, I don't. I just find new things to worry about ;-)

Hi Kandy! Very sorry for my panic posting, it's just all very new and scary. I tried to search and read online but there's just so much stuff and I don't know about how any of this works... also very hard to "research" with your mind racing, as I'm sure many others here unfortunately can relate to.

Is there any way that I can know if there's a high likelihood or low, as to whether the cancer has spread there? I was told that based on the mammogram and saunogram that the lump appeared small and that the lympnodes appeared negative, but can't know until they actually do the surgery what the final diagnosis is. I wish I could have some idea how accurate the clinical diagnosis' usually are to know the odds. That's also why hearing the news that I have a nodule on my lung to go along with my cough is even more worrisome.
