My Wife just got diagnosed today-helpless/in shock

I guess I should have saw it coming but played the it will not happen card. My wife has the BRCA2 gene and is already under "high priority" monitoring. As a preventative measure she just went under the knife to remove her ovaries just last month! And now this: they found a small 0.7cm lump from the MRI and after the biopsy, it was confirmed that she has an invasive ducal breast cancer. Right away she is going to do another MRI on Thurs and then next Monday we are seeing the surgeon...should I be concerned that all this is happening so fast or is the doctor just good?

I am so lost, confused, in shock...and worried like crazy. All out panic as I am reading and learning about all the what if's. What do I do? How can I provide good support (I think she is handling it much better).

Am I worried for nothing given some of the things many on this forum has been through. I worried it may have spread and then this can be life threatening.

Any comments can be useful. I'm sure I sound like I am rambling but I am really lost

    That speed is not unusual at all. Sounds like doctors doing their job. As you said, .7cm is small. That second MRI and surgical consult should help your wife figure out what to do.

    The speed sounds normal to me. Like Wicked stated, just doctors doing their job. Smile

    The size is very small, so that's great!!! "Invasive" sounds scary, but all it means is that the tumor has "invaded" nearby breast tissue. Invasive Ductal Carcinoma is actually the most common type of breast cancer to be diagnosed with.
    Right now is a stressful, overwhelming, scary time.....but trust me when I say that once you guys meet with the surgical oncologist and create a game plan, you will feel better, more in control and informed. It does get better, I promise!

    I'm so sorry that your wife has to go through this, but thankfully, she's got you to help her! My husband was my biggest support system and I can't tell you how much that helped me get through this mess. Just being there for her, even if you don't know what to say or do, will help her greatly!
