congratulations!

Thanks Lisa.

Congrats , Nancy!!!

Thanks Joanne and Barbe.
You have to submit your own photos just to clarify. My friend let me know I had made it as it appeared in the digital print of the newspaper and hopefully will come out in the hard copy.
I got a congrats letter from the president of this county camera club on a butterfly pic that was a winner last month. He invited me to visit this club. It sounds interesting and a way to meet local photographers and definitely learn a lot. They are very much into competitions which I don't know what I think about that but I might check them out. Have any of you been a part of a camera club before? If so any thoughts one way or another.

I tried a club and HATED it!! It was run by a famous Canadian photojournalist and other people were afraid to make comments and really pushed him for feedback. I wanted feedback from my peers as well as a pro. Having to do a monthly challenge took the joy away from it as well. Besides, most of the people were pretty naive to composition so it was painfully boring at times. There was only a handful of times I was impressed. I didn't feel I was with other artists. If that makes sense.

I have discovered Adobe Creative Cloud. I have edited my photos with various versions of Photoshop Elements and Picasa for years, but have not been willing to pony up the much higher price for Adobe Lightroom until recently. I was seriously considering paying for Lightroom when I got the offer to sign up monthly with the Creative Cloud. I now have the latest versions of Photoshop and Lightroom for only $10 per month.
Was playing around a bit this morning with one of my Panda photos in Lightroom. I can already tell that I'm going to love this software. P.S. Please keep your fingers crossed. Starting Monday, our Momma panda is on 24 hour birth watch.

Thanks for your input Barbe. I looked into the camera club in my own city and it was not at all what I was interested in. It sounded like all they did was shoot and cover theater events which is obviously not my type of photography.
This one looks quite professional and there is a neat museum that is displaying their photos and there will be some people from the club to answer questions. This will happen in early Sept. One of my photographer friends emailed me today and asked if i was interested in checking it out. I have said from the beginning that if my photography becomes a job and I lose the joy of it all then what is the point in that. So I am treading lightly. I am out of town helping take care of my mom four months out of the year so for me to even make the meetings would be a challenge.
Scottie, I love pandas. Praying that the Mom delivers healthy babies. I have not done anything with the Cloud so it is nice to hear this is a program you will use and enjoy.
Let us know about any birth annoucements!

Olympic stadium in Rio. Took this shot with my phone. Did not want to wander around Rio with expensive camera equipment.
-
hey Elizabeth Alfred loved your recent Hummer shots.
-
how great to be there Mum ! Are you headed back in my direction any time soon?
-
Lisa, that looks like fun. Lot's of music and dancing. I like the photo presentation. What software?
Mumito, I am sure you saw lots of music and dancing last night in person. How exciting that must have been. It came off very well for not having a dress rehearsal.

Nancy, those are great

Thanks Lisa. I am working on a butterfly calendar. I have to make the decision if I want to move from hobbyist to actually selling a product. Haven't figured it all out yet as I want to insure my equipment and if you sell anything I don't think your Homeowners policy will cover you. So I am taking it slow to see what I think. I have taken a gazillion butterfly pics this week. I now have enough different kinds of butterflies to put on a 12 month calendar.
There is a Bald Eagle event at this farm where the butterfly house is. I am going with another photographer this weekend to check it out. Hopefully they will let us take some pictures.
-
Hummingbird moth!! Never heard of that and you see one AND got a pic!?!?!? Was it in your own garden? Gorgeous pics!!
-
great pictures. I wish you best as a pro.
I remain a hobbyist.
-
Barbe, there is a wonderful Arboretum in the neighboring town and it is a photographers dream for nature. I have seen hummingbird moths in my flowers but I took this when photographing butterflies at the Arboretum. Thank you for your nice comments.
Lisa, just hearing you say going pro sends waves of terror through me. LOL I may end up using the calendars as gifts only but they are pretty pricey to have printed up but probably cheaper than trying to do it myself. I still have some time to consider all the options but I know new calendar season will be coming faster than I would like to think. I just want some avenue to share my photos and I am not on Facebook even though I probably should get with the times. I am not looking for an extra income source even though it could come in handy for that next lens that I just HAVE to have! Thank you for all your encouragement. I have learned alot just by studying your photos. You certainly are as good as any pro that I have seen!

After a couple of years into retirement, I realized I was too spread thin with all the I stuff I was doing, so I had to
cut back. Now ten years later, I have to do it yet again.
-
Lovely plumerias Lisa. Tonight's photo op. . .Venus and Jupiter at sunset. Please say a few prayers for our Panda mom on 24hr birth watch with second set of twins.

Lisa, I think I am trying to squeeze every bit out of life as I can right now. When I was working I had zero time to do anything. I realize that being a photographer can really beat up my body so I realize that starting this hobby at my age is a challenge. I wish I could turn back the clock and start this hobby a decade ago but I am thrilled that I have a new passion and will ride it out the best I can. I never made it to the eagle event but my photographer friend and I are going to venture into the city and go to the Chicago Botanic Garden. They have a butterfly exhibit there. I am driving and facing my fear of the city. I have had a couple of bad incidents in Chicago and haven't driven into the city for a very long time. They have this African moth that just came out of the chrysalis so that should be fun hunting that down. It looks like it is huge so probably easy to find. Hopefully I will have some decent pics.
Scottie, any word from Mama Panda? How is your astrophotography going?

You are going to have a wonderful time Nancy..go girl
