Hi. My masectomy was on 8/8/16 fir the right breast. I was told most likely I was stage zero but of course that's just based on the core biopsy. So my final results are stage 1 with idc of only 7mm clear margins & clear lymph nodes. But I had a wide spread of dcis at least 8cm and those margins of dcis were not clear. So now I have a 2nd surgurey in September to get any left over tissue if not I have a high chance of it coming back. I just hope they get all this dcis out this time. I have small children and want to get this behind me. But I am thankful I'm early stage.

Hi Hopful - So sorry for the stage upgrade. It sucks. I hope your next surgery goes well and you get clear margins. Best wishes and big hug.

I had also had a unsuccessful lumpectomy - no clear margins. I had DCIS sprinkled throughout. I went back for a mastectomy. My BS couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't have more of the same throughout the breast. As it turned out, it was a good call. I got clear margins with mastectomy. Good luck! Cancer at any stage stinks.

Its very common to have another surgery to get clear margins. I did andI had a lumpectomy too. I'll b 5 years out Monday.

Hopefull, did you have a mastectomy or lumpectomy art first? Unusual to have to go back in on a mastectomy for clear margins as they take everything

Hi Jiffrig, yes. I had a complete masectomy of the right breast. But it seems that I had a widespread of dcis cribriform grade 2. So the margins for the dcis were unclear. My BS wants to go back in once more to scrape any tissue that might be left over. I know it's not too common. I just want to do whatever it takes to lower my chances of a reoccurrence. So now I might have to do radiation after 2nd surgurey that's going to prolong my reconstruction.
