Results of MRI

Radiologist said the areas of enhancement on both sides are "too many to count." She said there are two that are the most suspicious, on the right (which is close to my 7/26 surgery), and one of the left (which is further away from the surgery site). The right breast has a hematoma from an artery being nicked during the biopsy, so that could account for that finding. She recommends MRI biopsy on the two most suspicious sites. I am leaning toward BMX and am wondering about the benefit of even doing the biopsies. Is it important to know if they are malignant so that the associated lymph nodes can be checked? I am meeting with my BS tomorrow and can discuss with her further. I'd love to hear what you guys think is the likely course.

Did they initially operate for LCIS and then find on pathology that it was ILC?

See what the BS has to say, but given the difficulties of imaging ILC and the fact that your initial DX involved both breasts, I would probably toward BMX too

Yep, exactly that, Momine. ILC area never showed up on any mammos. Just wondering whether it's worth biopsying the suspicious areas before BMX or not.

I had one IDC tumor show up on ultrasound. My MRI showed two other possible sites in that breast, and a suspicious area in my "good" breast. I did not want to do three extra biopsies before surgery, so I just consented to have a sentinel node biopsy on the good side as well as the bad. By the way, none of the things on the MRI were cancer--just the one known tumor.

Kathy, that's exactly what my BS recommended today. Will be getting a second opinion, but I strongly suspect it will concur with the first.

No, I can't see the reason for more biopsies if you are going for a BMX

Biopsies leave scars. My skin also tore in the area I had multiple core biopsies when I had my nipple sparing BMX. I think I had 4 - 5 of those monster biopsies in one area because they kept checking ki-67 rate.

My opinion would be to go to BMX. They can do amazing things now! My left breast which had no tears looks great and I have almost full feeling. The right, which tore about 1.5 inches is needing multiple revisions. I still have my nipples and big scars only underneath. The better your external skin, the better the results.

Not to mention significantly lowering your worries about recurrence.
