I've been covered in liquid awesome for days now as we have been in the upper 90's with high humidity. Working in my classroom was hot!We had bad storms Friday and Saturday and lost power for 25 hours. Not fun!

Moved my exercise inside. Hot enough just getting from the car to the house.

We did river tubing on Sunday which provided some relief for a few hours.

Today was more comfortable but I hear we are headed back to humidity tomorrow.

Claire - your pictures look cool and lovely. Ginger - the river tubing sounds perfect in this heat.

We had wild storms again last night, but by this morning it was warm and humid and I just couldn't make myself get out for a run. So I have my workout clothes at work and I'll head to the gym to hit the dreadmill.

Speaking of dreadmills, I have a friend who retired this spring, and is in training to do the 500-mile Camino pilgrimage trail through Spain, starting next month. For months, she's been hiking and walking miles every day to train. But like the rest of us this crazy hot spell has really gotten to her the last few days, so she's been hitting the dreadmill. Part of training is learning to carry the 18 pound backpack that she'll be carrying on the trek. So there she is, in the gym, walking the treadmill with a full backpack. As she said, "I've been getting some strange looks at the gym this week. Doesn't everyone need a full backpack to use a treadmill?"

hsant... I live between Dayton and Toledo, about an hour north of Dayton.

NatsFan... I would love to see people's reactions to your friend walking the treadmill with a backpack on. I'm sure it would be entertaining!

Quick walk a.m. then at work p.m. DH a bit under the weather so we're staying in & vegging out tonight.

PlanB, I didn't have rads but anyone who's had surgery (all of us) should check out this thread with guidelines for exercise for people with or at-risk for lymphedema. Our very own NatsFan started the thread! I also bumped it up to the top of Active Topics for you.

Be careful with the arm, PlanB. If it is hurting, back off a little.

POUND in the morning & Barre tonight. Does spinning in circles count for anything? 'Cause that's what I did for the rest of the day!

I did my Livestrong class today. All my usual weight machines and added some ab crunches-oof! We finished it off with a 25 minute spin class. It was a lot of fun

Did my usual hike this morning. It's been raining here for the past few days, but fortunately the weather is behaving itself in the early a.m.

Ruth, If spinning in circles were an Olympic sport, I would be a gold medalist.

    Gorgeous, hsant.

Yesterday was a flying home day. So, walking through 2 airports was about 1.5 miles. Today will just be grocery shopping and recovery.

    You are all amazing.

    Nice pictures, hsant!

Since school starts next week, we retired teachers invited some of our still teaching friends to come walk, talk, and breakfast with us. As you can see, we had a fun morning. Tomorrow DH & I are going on a four day weekend to a 'Cajun Fest' in Minnesota....... leaving the house in disarray. DH is so unhappy with the work done by the carpenter (the cabinets slope downwards), and distrusts his work so much, that he and a friend are going to take them down & reinstall them themselves. The carpenter is going to have to come back & redo the crown molding (whether we trust him or not, because they can't do it......after the new special order crown modeling, which the carpenter is paying for, comes in).......sigh.......the joys of remodeling!

What a great thing to do for the teachers!!

What a nightmare on your kitchen! So sorry. Have a nice vacation!

ruth, I'm so sorry for you. You are doing your best to treat the kitchen episode lightly but that is a bucketload of stress, especially when you know the carpenter personally. If you and your husband are anything like us, you've probably talked about this and planned for ages. It is so annoying and disappointing. It will, of course, come right in the end. A break away is just the ticket.

Hsant, i laughed about your dad's remote controls, especially because you got both of them. My dad lived with us for a while. He was very particular that his pristine white underwear was washed separately. You guessed. A rogue red tshirt lurking. Lovely pink man pants.

Wonderland. . .lol just saw your post. You're right, the fan thief was a jerk. I now have a new one with my name written all over it.

So I have finally taken my gym ratness to the next level. Showed up and power was out from a lightening strike. Stayed anyway and found out that most of the bikes and ellipticals actually run on foot power. Who knew?

Power finally came back on so now on the dreadmill feeding the Fitbits.

Oh Ruth, that's rotten about your cabinets! Hope MN is a nice break. Love the pic of the teachers.

Had a really frustrating day. Started out with rain so couldn't walk, tho I'm grateful for the rain. Newspaper didn't come until after I'd left for work. Hectic day with a rush assignment, lots of interruptions, and a cranky new computer system. Fled the building 30 mins early as had worked through lunch, and de-stressed with a nice long walk listening to Joe Satriani when I got home.

    hsant, beautiful pix.

    Sweet dreams, Sweet!

    Gorgeous pictures Claire!

hsant: Nice scenery for your hike!

Ruth: I know you're just sick over your kitchen. Glad the carpenter paying for the new molding. Have fun on your trip.

Hi! I've been walking/running in the mornings this week. Just trying to stay cool. Our grass is growing fast now and I'm not looking forward to mowing again so soon!

ruthbru, bummer about your cabinets. Sometimes it is just easier to not mix friends and business. You expect a friend to take extra care. Great pics hsant.

Yesterday led my Leslie Sansone group with a 5-mile walk. At least that's inside as outside humidity here is crazy. But, humidity or not still went out with 9 other brave souls and played an hour of pickleball at 7pm tonight. We could probably fill a child sized pool with our sweat but it's so much fun.

I'm here Wonderland, love love love your before and after pictures. We have had visitors from the UK for the past week, so I've been going from work to the gym then out to various and sundry restaurants, then we had my Hannah's bridal shower on Saturday so my plate has been FULL, I'd say I'm getting back to normal but I'm flying to Boston tomorrow night just for the weekend

Aww Ruth so sorry about your cabinets, breathe and enjoy your weekend away, great turnout for the WWW group.

Beautiful pictures hsant, what a lovely place to walk.

TH if you'd like to bring your OCD cleaning persona to my place I'd welcome you with open arms

Hey Sweet, good to see you.

I have kept up with my exercise while our visitors were here, I've been Body Pumping, Spinning, Body Combatting and dancing - I've then negated every ounce of exercise by eating out, thank goodness they've gone home but they'll be back in December for the wedding.

    Welcome Kaption and Logang.

Tried to catch up with the thread but am giving up for now. Raining here today, a nice break from the heat. And we had some boiling HOT days if you count the few days we were in NYC and environs. I did manage to jog around the reservoir in Central Park without stopping. Also paddled down the Delaware River in a canoe. It seemed I was doing most of the work because DH was too hot (DD was on her own in a kayak). We hiked on Bear Mountain and saw only one other hiker in the heat. But I loved it all. My niece's wedding was also pretty memorable. It was great to see family from all over. The best part was the dancing.

Not much exercise yesterday as I had the Opera and didn't get much walking in, not to mention that I also didn't do my weights as got home at 11:30. Long day, but Count Ory was great ribald fun with well sung wonderful music (Rossini). I don't think much this weekend either as have an old friend visiting. I may go out for a run both days in the very early AM as will be super hot. I see swimming in our future too. Tubing would be great fun, but suspect a huge crowd. But perhaps could go early.

It won't be hot if we fall in!

Sorry Ruth about the less than stellar job with your kitchen. Two weeks from now, you will be looking back and so glad that you got the job done. And something you will enjoy for years to come.

We have our building picnic tonight so burgers and beer for dinner. I drove by my old place on the way to the opera last night, and am I ever glad I no longer live there. Still lovely, but a new apartment building going up kitty-corner across the street. I moved out of the 'hood just in time as getting very crowded now.

Weekend from now will be a catch up time with exercise. Doing a cycle, wine tasting, and catch up ride with my friend Amanda. A wine tasting of Bainbridge Island via bicycle has been on my bucket list and this should be great fun. If still hot, it will be cooler there as in the Puget Sound. A number of wineries and mostly local grapes so different varitals than elsewhere in Washington State.

And the High Pass Challenge a week from Monday. Last really big ride of the season.

Will get in my walking today. And hoping for a run tomorrow while still cool. Plus a house clean is in order. Relatively little cooking as just too hot for any major meals. But am thinking a seafood pasta salad for Friday evening. Festive and great hot weather fare.

Have a wonderful day! - Claire

Better day today! Accomplished a lot but it was nicely paced with a morning walk and a 7th inning stretch.

Someone asked about pickleball. It's a racquet sport that's a cross between badminton, tennis, and ping-pong. Played with a paddle on a court or in the yard, it's for all ages and sounds like fun.

Pilates and painting today. Thanks for the advice about the arm. I am backing off a bit on planks and such to see if it helps.

Ruth so frustrating on your kitchen! Sounds like a good time for a break enjoy it.

    Hsant wonderful pictures!

Twohobbies I feel the same way where did the summer go? It's not like it hasn't been hot enough but the time just sort of evaporated! I love the cool crisp of fall but not what comes next

Loving the cooler mornings and evenings that August brings. I've been walking before work around 6 or 6:15 am and it is so nice, around 60!! It is still getting into the low 90's but it is easier to take with the cooler mornings and evenings. This afternoon I was working at the school near my house so I left my car home....I was in a room with a window, but my back was to it so I wasn't paying attention to the outside...When I went to leave I saw that it rained...luckily it just stopped when I was leaving.

Even with being back at work, I've managed to get my steps in this week. I've been enjoying the early morning walks but once it is dark at 6, it won't be quite as nice!!.

Ruth - hope you're having a wonderful trip. Still trying to wrap my head around Minnesota's very Nordic population doing Zydeco dancing at a CajunFest! Heidi - sounds like a fun trip to NYC - there's always a lot of walking there. Claire - cycling and wine tasting - my kind of outing! Karen - our mornings are still in the 70's, but hoping for the 60's soon.

Back to the dreadmill for a run last night - and yes, Scottie - I had my fan going! Thanks for the tip about it fitting nicely into the water bottle holder - so much better than trying to clip it onto the frame somehowl

Minimal exercise yesterday as building picnic....where the band was great. Interesting time warp as a group who can still play early 60s standards. But great fun. Then we had a four-legged visitor who fortunately didn't quite make it to the food.

A black bear!!!! I supposed it was tired of the glorious blackberries that are everywhere. Certainly, no ribs showing. Anyway, it was scared off by the band. I know they are around, but the first time I have seen one that close.

I have a friend visiting this weekend, so up early cooking salad fixings, as will be warm later. But just delightful right now. Will be fun to catch up with her, not to mention enjoying my much cleaner apartment. Suspect that this weekend exercise will involve a lot of swimming as perfect weather for it. Farmers market too for vegetables. Such a wonderful variety from east and west of the Cascades.

Have a great weekend everyone! - Claire

Had early morning meeting so planned on exercising in pool afterwards but then saw a Butterfly Gardening club was meeting today so we went for that. Thought they would give us ideas on what plants/flowers to raise to attract butterflies but it turned out to be more information on raising and maintaining caterpillars. I'm bug phobic (I know, I know, they turn into beautiful butterflies) and when they went on and on and on and got into how wasps and gecko's eat the baby caterpillars and then how to clean up caterpillar poop well we had enough and walked out. Guess butterfly gardening is not in our future. (it also was way too much work!)

Oh well, will go to the square and do some dancing instead for my exercise today.

    Night sculpted friends.
