Bi-Rads 4 and getting MRI Biopsy
Hi All, My sister died at age 41 from BC and my mom was diagnosed at 71 but has been cancer free since, and she is now 78. I am so scared because I got a 'routine' MRI, due to family history, and received a call back for a biopsy. Here is report:
CONCLUSION; FOCAL AREA OF RELATIVELY ROUND RING ENHANCEMENT 6MM IN DIAMETER, RIGHT LATERAL POSTERIOR BREAST.
What are the statistics of BC? I only see if it's aggressive 6mm can still be very dangerous. I am assuming cancer due to the rim enhancement. I have heard that with small lesions, that is a tell tale sign of aggressive cancer. I am getting MRI biopsy Friday. I am 54 and post- menopausal.

Hi Janice,
First, so sorry about your sister. Tragic. Second, my mom died of BC so it is so easy for me, and I'm sure for you, to "go there" in our minds. As my mom lay dying in hospice, I got a call that they found an 8mm area of concern on my mri. I rotate mri and mammo every 6 months. So I almost thought I would faint right there. I was just hysterical by the end of the phone conversation with my doctor. I don't think I heard her at all. Anyway, I have never heard of the small lesions being more aggressive than larger ones. My mri guided biopsy turned out to be benign. What I want you to know right now - and I finally have heard my doctor when she says this to me over and over- you are NOT your sister or your mom. You may not have the propensity for bc like they did. You simply can't assume. This lesion you have is very small and it sounds like you have been highly monitored. Good for you for getting the best of care! And do remember that the MRI picks up every little thing. While it's great to be highly monitored, you take the good with the bad - the bad being that it can give you alot of false alarms. I'm sure that you, like I, are willing to accept the false alarms in exchange for some really great monitoring. BTW have you had a mammo recently? Also did they follow up with an ultrasound? Do you have a birads score? Sorry for all the questions but trying to get a good picture of what's going on. Please keep us advised, Janice. You are in my thoughts. Mary

Hi Mary,
Thank you for responding, I hear you loud and clear. My sister died on Christmas Eve which made it worse. Anyway, Bi-Rads is 4. Thought I put that in there somewhere, sorry. I'm such a mess, but should be thankful that it is a small lesion. I had a Mammo and US on both breast 11 mo ago. I don't think it would've picked up. What was your Bi-Rad

Janice. Mine was a 4. Benign. About 80% of birads 4 are benign according to stats. My mom had a birads 5. They started talking cancer before she even went for a biopsy. I will be thinking about you tomorrow. Please let me know. You are in my prayers. Mary

Mary, Thank you for responding and for being so nice. I will absolutely let you know how it goes. I feel like I am walking in a fog:( My son is having his 'white coat ceremony' tomorrow as he is starting med school. I have not told either child about my biopsy because I don't want to worry them. It will be tough when they try to hug me and though, lol. Thanks for your prayers!!!!

I am in the same boat with a BI-Rads 4 result and waiting for my biopsy...I was scheduled for this past Wednesday, but woke up with a 101 degree fever and throwing up... I have a big sinus infection! my nerves have been bad the last two weeks....we had a close death in the family and had to reschedule due to that....then this....I hear ya on the stress....pretty sure the lack of quality sleep triggered the infection, so I need to take a Xanax and get some deep sleep!
Bug hugs!😊
