lumpectomy for multifocal multicentric IDC at Dana Farber

In the process of getting my second opinion at DF and they are suggesting they can do a lumpectomy instead of MX even though I have 2 small tumors (8mm IDC) and one area of ADH that need to come out. I am excited at the possibility of much less recovery time and less (if any) plastic surgery afterwards. The tumors are about 5cm apart central breast, the ADH is further but very small. I have very large breasts and don't mind getting a reduction in the least. I can reduce the other to "match".

Has anyone else had this done? I was so surprised to hear this as an option, as my local team has said MX from the start. Would love to hear from others.

    I am also going to Dana Farber (I started with a second opinion and then liked my oncologist and surgeon so much I stayed there.) I was still not a candidate for a lumpectomy, so I can't add anything for your particular case. Just that after about six months of traveling there for treatment I am now scheduled for surgery and I've been super happy with my care there.

    Thanks Meg, I am happy so far too, but just finished chemo (with previous team) and now waiting for surgery date asap! Let me know how it goes with you.
